I'll never be picked for Jury duty. I'm biased against the court system and I tell them so. I also have a record. Yet despite those things, I've been subpoenaed for it three times.

I think they go by drivers licenses on record, that's why you continue to get picked. The weeding out process takes care of the "ineligible" at that point.

I just remembered. I got picked for jury duty about four or so years ago. Thing is, I was stationed in Colorado at the time, and would be overseas when I would have to participate in the trial. I called them up and told them this and so far, they probably still think I am off somewhere else in the world.

Hence why I just write on the little paper survey they send that I am biased against the courts. I get a letter in 3-4 days saying I don't need to appear. You would think they would flag me in the computer though, so that I don't get summoned for it again.

I have been subpoenaed onto the stand as a witness too. I was driving home from work one night when I saw a pickup run a car off the road (like in movies, where they run them off the road on purpose) and slammed on my brakes and whipped a U-turn. I probably saved the woman's life because when I pulled up behind the car, I saw them down in the ditch. He swung on her, then was surprised by my headlights aiming down into the ditch and ran for his truck and tore out of there. Sadly the bastard got away with it because I never saw his face, just his truck. And in the dark I couldn't tell if it was red or brown. It ended up being a dark red, but since I couldn't identify the guy they wouldn't convict him of the assault. Which is bullshit, I gave a pretty accurate description of the truck, the woman identified him, and he was caught with her cell phone. And people wonder why I'm prejudiced against the courts? What the FUCK man?

If it's a jury trial, how can you be prejudiced against the courts? It's an inept jury that convicts or not.

Because the whole court system is broken. Including how juries are chosen. And you know the rest from our private discussions. How I plead guilty to one thing at 14, but its something entirely different that went on my record because the judge accepted my guilty plea, but said "I don't believe you, so you're guilty of it all". Its all fucked.

Up until 5 years ago serving on jury would have caused e GREAT financial hardship. Every job up till now would not pay me while serving and the ridiculous compensation from the courts ($15.00 a day) FAR from makes up for lost wages.

The company I work for now will pay me minimum rate for serving (sucky but liveable). In the past when I got a jury summons I simply told them that serving would be a financial burden and there was no problem being excused. The last time (about 2 years ago) I had made the arrangements with work and the court notified me that I wasn't needed. No biggie.

If I ever get chosen I'll go in ready to hear the case and evaluate the evidence even though I believe that the accused is likely guilty. Bottom line......if it quacks like a duck, unless there is compelling evidence to the contrary, it's a duck.
