Someone in another forum started a thread about how proud he is of his granddaughter... and when you opened the thread, saw he was proud because she had won a school beauty pageant.
The thread had some good points before the subject got dragged through the mud by a certain anal retentive with too much time on his hands, but I tend to agree that being proud of a child for being better looking than the rest of the children is wrong. Bad, even. The pride isn't based on anything more than luck of the draw genetics, not on a talent the child has developed on his/her own. We're so damn superficial in this country that we tend to place more importance on appearance than in character or intelligence.
Thoughts?
