This is a newborn offspring of Taskin, a Gypsy Stallion owned by Villa Vanners of Oregon . These pictures were taken immediately after his birth on April 6. The mare laid down, and then he trotted around and crawled right up into her lap.

Aww now that is sweet and rare! What a beautiful foal too.

I had one foal that would let me sit by her while she was lying down and she would put her head in my lap and sleep. It's very rare for a horse to stay on the floor like that when anyone approaches due to the strong flight instinct.

those are great pics Twilla.

I agree. I will have to show this to friends of ours who is has grazing rights in the New Forest near us.

He has 14 ponies at the moment but the new government 'National Park' status is giving all the commoners a headache. The vergers are fighting the new rules which have been set up by idiots who no nothing about how the New Forest has been run for the last 1200 years! The ponies wander freely and have total right of way, which is not a problem, except holidaymakers are not sure what to do about ponies in the road. Our friends ponies rarely wander far and can be found within a mile of home.
This year there will be no foals, he thinks, since the mares were not allowed on the forest at the same time as the stallions! It upsets the non-locals to see the ponies fighting.
I've never seen a pony get hurt though.
Would this happen?
Have either of you seen injuries from fighting?

I saw two fighting last year in the middle of the lane as No1 son and myself were coming through the Forest after a motorbike ride. We stopped (as you must- they had right of way) and they circled and nipped each other and other ponies wandered restless in the road. Then sudden they all picked up and charged off into the woodland. We had turned our engines off so not to disturb them and it was so peaceful suddenly. Phil looked at me and grinned having never seen anything like it, but I was a bit scared because I thought we could have got caught up in the fight, kicked or something even though we tried stay well away.
Then a car came the other way so we restarted our bikes and moved on. It was something to remember

Trudi, Stallions fighting will often leave bite marks on the neck and shoulders, flanks and hocks. Sometimes kicks from rear legs can land just right and break a limb.

What you describe sounds more like foreplay by a mare and stallion.

Stallions do not fight to the death but they do fight for hierarchy.

Worst thing to happen to anything is letting the government manage it.
