Well,  I finally have a new band project in its infancy and we are starting to get a few songs together.  It's a rocky start as we have had trouble getting together due to various appointments/prior commitments etc that each of us have.
Now, one of the guitarists has decided to go incommunicado indicating that he isn't interested anymore but for some reason doesn't want to just come out with it.  But....that's a part of growing pains and nothing I haven't dealt with before.  Just have to try and find someone else who IS interested and will fit in and stick with it.

All of that aside, we are considering a name for the band and so far the one that stands out is Rock Dawgs.  The reason for the alternate spelling is that I researched it with the correct spelling and there's already a band with a website and FB page using that name.  Now granted they are in Sydney Australia but......why invite confusion?

We are going to be playing covers ranging from mid/late 60's, 70's, 80's classic rock.....a few newer rock tunes and some southern fried songs.  We will be including Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, Tommy Tutone, Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper, Blackfoot, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Who and the usual mix of artists for these genres.

So, do ya think that Rock Dawgs on a marquee or event poster would convey that sort of band image?
The big reason I'm asking is that it seems that nowadays folks tend to judge a band initially by their name as far as the genre they are likely to play.  Pretty much a name like Satan's Bloodbath or Destructive Entity screams death metal.  The Highlighters or Easy Does It say light or easy listening.  Whiskey River would indicate country.

Based on this (and the fact that folks are all ADD and won't actually READ the rest of the signs to find out what they play) is Rock Dawgs sufficient to convey our genre, or at least ambiguous enough to NOT convey a false impression?

I think you are spot on with the name indicating what type of music to expect.
I have a personal dislike for the term dog or especially the misspelling of it, but that is my issue not yours.
Rock Dawgs would definitely mean rock and roll to me, but I might be expecting something a little harder than Bon Jovi and the Stones.
Your signatures annoy me.

I have to let this run around in my head a bit, but mostly I agree with twist for the most part.

Don't sweat the facebook and same name i Oz - when those idiots forced Matt to use The RedLiners there were like so many of the same name band on FB and on a general search it was insane and they kept it anyway. That band is gone. I made sure they got so many "no we don't want you" replies to gigs they had to change that name. Now they're calling themselves "Nowhere Fast" and I'm going to make that hold true too. Poor George. He should never have threatened me and mine.
