Will the next one be "Start Trek Way Beyond"?

Either way, I'll be there with 3D glasses on!

Some of my 'nerd friends' really don't like all the newer ST stuff. They call themselves purists or some lame geeky shit like that. I like the new stuff a lot. It's more realistic for what advanced space travel would be like. I mean really, how many times can you get away with diplomacy when the very existence of a planet or race of people hang in the balance of one hell bent dictator?

Chris Pine does an amazing job of capturing Kirk's personality too.

I gotta say that the whole idea of Kirk's "troubled childhood" is wildly misinterpreted! I see it as them showing a kid with a "wild" streak. A bit of a daredevil if you will. And this sets up the kind of person that makes it to Captain on a starship. Someone who can lead by example if you will.

Fuck the purists! Stop comparing the new ST with the past. This is all new. Take it at face value. FFS Evolve!

As for the "Roddenberry message" - it's there, you just have to understand that starting with Kirk you have to - dare I say it again? EVOLVE! Why? Because at this time space exploration is all new. Gotta figure it out all over again Smile

You're only just hearing about this twitch? I've known for over a year now lol.

I'm a "purist", but love the new stuff. It's a reboot with an alternate timeline. Which is fine. I love it.

The only thing I don't like is that there was a romance between Spock and Uhurua, that diverged just a little too far for me. But, whatever.

No I am not "just hearing about this". I'm starting a conversation in a virtually lifeless forum.

The whole 'Red Matter' thing made me shake my head at the time, that's about the only thing I had an issue with.

I just don't compare it to anything else. Take it at face value and the little things don't bother me then Smile

Same as I do with Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. If I had read the books first I would most likely be comparing.

I'm not a 'purist' or non, just a fan. Grew up watchin the original in syndication, was on every day 3:30 so I could catch it after school. Like the all series to some degree or another. DS9 was probably my favorite because it was the only one to really get away from the whole 'everything is wonderful by the end of the hour' fomulae. I enjoyed all the new ones, I like the whole style JJ put on them, and they still have fun.

Yeah, DS9 is one of our faves too. I did like Voyager a lot too because it did put a little harder edge to the captain.

LOL at 3:00 we had Lost In Space to watch after school Smile When the first ST movies came out it was HUGE. We stood on line for hours for tickets and the whole big screen experience for ST was just so awesome back then.
