Well, apparently Kenmore and Sears customer service seems to think it's normal for stainless steel to rust. Yep. One floor monkey at my local store said my pool caused it. Seriously. The pool has been covered since September.

Around the beginning of October I noticed the grill starting to rust. ALL the stainless steel screws, nuts and bolts are rusting and the counter tops, hood and hood handle are rusting as well as the stainless frame on the doors. I'm told this is cosmetic.

They have until the end of today to sort me out or I'm making a FB page about this, a website about this AND starting with Sears corporate offices about this.

I've been going around and around with sears on this for 2 months now. I bought the grill on August 17, 2014 and started this process when it was barely out of warranty. I didn't get the extended warranty due to the reputation of Kenmore appliances and I've been buying my own strictly Kenmore appliances since 1976 without issue. NOT ONE SINGLE ISSUE.

The representative I got on the last call on Friday said it is SOP to give someone the runaround to make an item become out of warranty longer than it was when they started to get satisfaction AND they will NEVER, EVER make an exception for anyone. They claim they're too big a company to be able to afford this. Seriously? Keurig just replaced without question my coffeemaker and that thing is 3 years old and way out of warranty. They may not be as big as Sears / Kenmore but they're not a "mom and pop" operation either.

Well, Sears owes me for at least 6 hours of my time and I was given such a run around it's insane TAKE A LOOK at the public conversation I started on Facebook.

And I'm including screenshots in case you can't see them. One is the public conversation and the other is the private messages.

Convo if you can't see the link without an account.

PM - this is a good one. Dante couldn't even think of this kind of Hell!

Realize that Kenmore appliances are contract manufactured. The grilles are made by several manufacturers CharBroil, Brinkman and Master Forge are among them.

I would think that yours is a Master Forge produced unit since rusting screws is a problem with their units. The problem is that the stainless steel they are using for the contract units has a very low carbon content and therefore has a good appearance initially but doesn't have much resistance to oxidation (rust). The screws are the same for contract and self labeled products but other parts for contract units are of lesser quality than the branded units.

Sears/Kenmore is aware of this. The reason many Kenmore products are less expensive than corresponding branded units is because of this.

Now I'm sure you already knew this. Your point here is that Sears is not standing behind the product as they have in the past. Sadly this is the new way Sears deals with product warranty since they are struggling to stay afloat in today's business atmosphere.

In the future you will likely do as I have done and switched to purchasing brand name products even though they cost a little more. For grilles I have moved to CharBroil and Brinkman as brands of choice.

It sucks ass that Sears has sunk to this level after a LONG history of being the store with the BEST warranty policies, bar none.

Yeah. I haven't had much luck with CharBroil either in the past. I'm going to save my money and get a Weber. I am livid with sears and it's because of this kind of bullshit is why they're having trouble staying afloat.

If they go back to manufacturing the Kenmore brand instead of using cheap Chinese parts and make a big deal of it AND back their stuff up the way they used to, I'm sure things will look up for them. Using quality parts costs them less because they won't get as many complaints and warranty issues.

Weber gas grills have a bad tendency to vapor lock which is why I go with CharBroil or Brinkmann.

Since you have bad luck with CharBroil then give Brinkmann a try. Also Weber is just a bit too proud of their grills for my taste and Brinkman has some really kickassed features for very good prices on their latest lines. Home Depot carries them in stock so you can check them out before you buy.

Here's the one I have been eyeing up to replace my worn out CharBroil.

It says not sold in stores but my local Home Depot DOES stock this model as I checked it out on display there.

Here's some to check out. Right about now would be a good time to buy if you can afford to because they would rather blow them out than store them over winter and have to blow them out anyway in the spring.

Hey, some guy named Nick may join. Been talking to him on Facebook and he has a Kenmore range that tried to burn his house down a couple times. I explained to him that posting his issue here with links will generate interest through search engines.

We also discussed a plan of action. Well my plan anyway. I'm giving the fucksticks until Friday and then I'm unleashing internet hell on them.

I wish the software allowed my mods to accelerate a new member's status. I want to take this opportunity to get out for a ride. It'll only take me an hour but it would be good if you guys can do it to. He should be 'fast tracked' right to posting in the main forums.

Cast iron rusts unless you really pay attention to it. I'm done with cast iron. I don't have that kind of patience anymore.

Damn! The amount of energy they're expending to do this all wrong is far and above the amount it would take to do it right.
