That's something that I've never been able to do. Spend money on fancy wheels and shit for a car.
If it's on there and it works, it's good enough for me.

My car had the fancy wheel option, otherwise I'm like you Twist. I just can't justify the expense.

Don't get the rims with stripes. If they come in solid black, yeah, but stripes are tacky on rims. JMO

I'm thinking about getting a set of these wheels for it.

American Racing AR767 black with red and blue trim stripes.




This is the tire I have in mind. 255 70R/16 Cooper Discoverer A/T3.




I'm also going to get the hood scoops repainted. Matte black with the front edge piece done in red.

I'd think hard on buying steelies for wheels. They can be very difficult to balance out and get to run smooth. Some alloy ones would be far easier.

I got the bfgoodrich all-terrain t/a ko2 's about two weeks ago for my truck they are a bit pricey but are the best all terrain tire you can buy right now and their rating for snow and rain is at the top. They look pretty aggressive but feel like a street tire and handling is excellent.

I really like and have very good results from the Goodyear Wrangler radial. Decent tread pattern and on 3 previous vehicles they have done well in snow and slop. They don't "sing" on dry roads and handle well. BUT......they are no longer made in 16".

All the other vehicles I had them on were 235 x 15. They DID offer them in 16". Now that I have a truck with 16" wheels they quit making them in anything but 15". DAMN!

I got the Eldorado Sport XL for our Tahoe and love them. They DO sing a little but not too bad.

I considered them for the Ram and priced them at my tire shop. They suggested the Cooper A/T3 as another choice because they have the same traction performance despite the less aggressive looking pattern, have virtually no sing, AND for $12 per tire difference come with a mileage guarantee. This shop will work with that in that if I wear them down to 50% and trade them in on a new set they will give me the new ones at 1/2 price. That's a deal I can live with!

(It really is a nice thing when you have been long time friends with the owners.)

I can get the Coopers for $707.00 mounted, balanced and installed. Not bad in my opinion.

Big problem here is that any I have found that I like either aren't offered in 16 X 8 OR are but not in a 5 lug configuration, only 6 or 8 lug. If I had a friggin' Ram 2500 that would work but mine is a 1500.

Oh well......more time and effort and I'll eventually come up with what I want.

I also need to get some prices on getting the hood scoops painted. The silver paint on them is kinda scruffy on the top from sun fade.

I was thinking of getting them done in matte (semi-gloss) black with the nose piece done in red and the front grille insert staying black.
I can get stickers in red that say 360 cu in or 360 cid Magnum for the sides of the scoops. Pretty much the scoop paint and wheels are the finishing touches I'd like for the truck to get it the "personality" I want it to have.

Yeah, that is the issue. Steelies are cheap, but there is a reason. If someone wanted a decent wheel for their snow tires, sure. But on a 4x4 you don't really need that...

Don't get me wrong.....there are lots of nice alloy wheels in the under $150.00 price range.
Just none so far that have the look I want. And like I said........the ones I do like all seem to have the size issue.

MANY moons ago (late 70's) when I went for wheels on my Pontiac it was relatively easy. Cragar, AR, Rocket, Weld or Centerline.
I opted for Centerline simply due to the "customizeability". Expensive? Oh yeah! BUT.......at the time cost wasn't an issue even though Centerlines were 3 times the expense of the rest. (Still are) The ones I ended up with had ACTUAL beadlock bolts as opposed to just the appearance of them.
When you are pushing over 700 HP they really are almost necessary.

I've never seen anyone run beadlocks on a rod. Even with cars pushing 1200+. Now off road is different. But technically beadlocks are illegal.

It's easy to spend stupid amounts of money on wheels. $900 a wheel? All over the place. I couldn't bring myself to do it.

Beadlocks are street legal in PA.

They did come in handy when only running 7 - 10 psi on what was the the N-50 x 15 tire size. I ran D O T legal Mickey Thompsons (Radials were just hitting the market at the time so these were fibreglass belted).

The reason I went with bead locks is that a friend of mine had a '69 Dart 383 pushing 600 hp and he DID spin off N-50 x 15 Thompsons.

Since I had more horsie than him I thought it well to go ahead and do it.

Also had a set of M & H Streetmaster "cheater" slicks. (JUST enough tread to run street tire classes) and had them mounted on the same wheels.

Now with today's tires I wouldn't need bead locks till I got up over 2000 HP but this is now and that was then.

Anyway................I like the bead lock look and if I could find wheels like that in my size and a configuration I liked they would definitely be on my "potentials" list.
