KIM! where the hell have you been?

Now miss Trudi - you'll have to give us a wee hint.

A new car?

A helicopter?

A unicycle?

I knew either kbear or jilly would crack it. Clap
A helicoper there's a thought.........

A car.
A really really new one too, so you would have thought my parents would have finally been pleased.
Remember when we usually buy a 'new car' it gets 'classic insurance' because it's 20 years plus or older.

There is a scheme for scrapage on old cars but we didn't take that offer up because the car we wanted has a 10 to 12 week waiting list (so this company is secure) which would mean March plates. The tax and scrap deal finishes in February.
Mark went into the showrooms where Christine had worked and a salesman told him the deals. When I went on Saturday to look at the cars again he told us of a car ready to go. The owner bought the car 3 weeks ago but never collected it. Eventually they got hold of him and he came into the showrooms to say he could no longer have the car. His company had gone bankrupt.
So since it was the model we were thinking of getting, we took it.

What is it?Biggrin
Fiat 500.

White with a red and white interior. The down side because it's in the Pop range there is no individual insignia. I had thought about getting one like I saw in France with a shopping bar-code over the roof.
We saved on the cost because the discount and 15% tax.

It is so small I do think it will fit in Joans' truck. Mark is so going to miss the 900 when it goes, I think it will fit in the boot space of that too!
The good thing it is so cheap to run, insure and tax, and it has city drive to whizz around town- God send!

15% tax?! Shock That is an outrage! But then again all your taxes are an outrage!

what's this "tax and scrap" deal? Is it supposed to be like our fucked up Cash for Clunkers insanity only they tax you to scrap the damn car!?

Now get some pictures and post them please. And the barcode on the roof! Rofl that is hysterical! You can always get that done aftermarket by a good painter at a body shop you know. Wink

Do you remember the first Fiat 500's Jilly? This is the only retro car that looks and feels like the original, but so much 21st century, even the interior feels so modern but 1950's!
An Abarth? Not at those prices, I'll keep the one I've got in the shed Angel

Although its a base model (a 'pop') I know two car customisers who can put a 'skin' on the car when I can afford it.

15% tax is like your State tax Joan. At the moment if you buy a car and trade in a car that is 8 years old or more and is still road worthy the government will give you £2000 extra off the sale of a brand new car. The car you trade in has to be scrapped though.
Therefore the second hand market is in a mess now. There is a shortage of second hand cars that are useable! Loads of unroadworthy ones though, which are only scrapped for £30.

The Saab has 20 people watching on eBay. Some how I think they are all our nosy friends waiting to see what we get for it!
