Thoughts on these choices?
Talked with my mechanic and he said there is absolutely no need to buy a CAI that requires a tune. I trust him.

C&L Street Cold Air Intake w/ 95mm MAF (11-14 GT)

K&N Black Hawk

And then you have 6kabillion choices

My truck has one from Spectre.

Don't let the price fool you. They perform right alongside K&N but at half the price.
PLUS.......their "plumbing" is all aluminum as opposed to plastic like everyone else's!

Since 2011 - 2014 all fits I used 2013 for the model year search.

I failed to have mentioned that I want the pipes in black. Hate chrome and not fond of the "silver" coloring from any source

Piece of cake to solve with a minimal amount of extra effort.

Simply have the inlet hardware which is the aliminum part powder coated.  Should run around $30-$40.  Would still come in much less expensive, give you the black hardware you want and get you the tougher (and more conducive to air cooling) aluminum inlet piping.

Both these powder coat businesses are located near Lakehurst.

http://sdlcoating.com/

Call them and see what they say.

Besides, powder coating is WAY better and much longer lasting than paint.

Hey all! Its been a while just been busy with life and shiz figured id chime in again. I had a S&B filter and it did show some performance gains, gains from any modification always boil down to how restrictive the stock part was .

I dont know of any CAI that requires a tune, however to get the most out of aftermarket intakes and exhausts a tune can drastically help. Reason is the computer settings are formulated around the performance parameters of the stock parts when you put something thats alot less restrictive on either end of the engine the computer should be made aware of it so it will adjust for max efficiency. Its not unusual to have say a 25 hp increase with changing intake and exhaust (depends on the car and the stats of the parts) and then tuning and gaining an additional 25 hp on top of that.

The ones I linked claim to give around 30 more HP. The one LKTraz showed me had no info, so I asked I. The comments and n the page. They say 7-12. That's a waste of time and money for that little gain.

Still deciding.

But more realistic.  How much HP is your car rated at stock?  A 'cold air intake' isn't going to give you 10% increase, no matter what they claim.

I know. I think my car claims to produce 420 out of the box. I think my mechanic has a Dynometer (sp?). If he ever has time to play I should have him test it before and after. Regardless of how many extra horses it does produce, it will give the car more response. That was very noticeable on the other mustang when I put it on.

I would expect the 7. The biggest thing they change is how it sounds. So everybody swears that they felt some big increase. Personally I find it incredible that people believe that a cheap bolt-on will give some radical gain. K&N has peanuts to spend on engineering compared to what Ford does. These rank only slightly below the 'performance chips' on ebay.

You can't feel a small increase in horses. I mean if I added an extra 50 or 100 sure, but 10-20? not really. What I felt on the other car was that it reacted better between gear shifts and stuff when I put the pedal down. remember, that was only a 6 banger with an automatic transmission, so that less restricted gulp of air was helpful.
