That would be Thin Lizzy with Whiskey In The Jar. Which has also been redone by Metallica (the metal remake you mention, and IMO the best version of it.)

oops, forgot the bassist/singer, which is Phil Lynott

Bravo!

IMO the best album they did was Jailbreak but the 2 hits from it (Jailbreak and The Boys Are Back) weren't the best songs. Emerald and Warrior were better. The Cowboy Song was good too.

Your turn.

This British Rock/Metal band's name is commonly misspelled. They were formed in '77 and still (with some member changes) perform today. Topped only by Iron Maiden in terms of British New Wave Metal, this band did hold the top spot prior to Maiden's coming into its glory.

Name the band, the band's alternate (original) name, and who is the current lead singer.

Had to think a bit.

Def Leppard, Atomic Mass and if Joe Elliot left I never heard about it.

This person was the leader of a notorious early 80's band that performed some offbeat songs, now composes songs for animation soundtracks and has written more advertising jingles than any other person in history.

Who is it and what band were they in?
