OK anyone wear special clothes for specific sports?

I don't usually. But I did when I competed with the horses. Now that I started biking, I'm finding underwear to be a problem.

Twist, I know you wear specific clothing for bike riding. I went usually just find lightweight, flexible things to wear with a sports bra and loose tank top. Been OK for now and the spandex capri type leggings were good until it got to be brutally hot around here.

So, I hit the stores for shorts. I got myself THESE in a couple of colors to give them a go. I didn't realize until I got home they had "underwear" built in. But they are not exactly snug fitting britches and the seams are a little bulky around the leg holes.

Am I supposed to skip out on my own underwear with something like this? I have been "doubling up" and it's pretty uncomfortable on the seat like that.

I have a pair of spandex bike shorts with a cotton crotch that looks like it's made to be worn commando as well, but I don't want to wear them in this hot weather because they are too long on the leg and I'll have a damn farmer's tan if I do. Seriously, I tan in the woods and it only takes walking around for me to get darker by the minute.

Any insight into the working of proper clothing and underwear would be appreciated.

I don't know anything about those JC Penney shorts, but actual bike shorts are made to go commando, although I always wear underwear with them. But the proper underwear makes a difference too, I have to dig out the old briefs as the boxer briefs end up riding up my legs and bunching up.

Actually, anything that is comfortable is good enough. When I go to the gym I just wear shorts and t-shirts, whatever I have on.

You talk like there is something wrong with a farmer tan. I have a serious farmer tan right now.

If I had a farmer tan, I literally would be brown and "white" (beige?). Kinda like those black and white cookies in the bakery!

I think these shorts were made for jogging or something like that but I was hoping they were good for short bike rides too. I like that they're loose in hot weather.

I'm going to try using the "built in" undies next ride and see what happens though.

As far as underwear, I've spent a lifetime trying to find comfy drawers to no avail. I even have two pair of padded undies for horseback riding. Tried those on the bike and they didn't work! The problem is the seams / elastic around the legs. For some reason they have not yet come up with a non-bulky, streamlined style for women.

Matt wears the boxer briefs riding and says he has no problem. But then again, he wears his regular, everyday, loose fitting shorts.

Yeah, when I am wearing just plain old shorts the style of underwear doesn't matter much.
They also sell padded biking underwear to wear under regular shorts. I've never tried them though.
