I'm not a big fan of the hybrid bikes either. Trek does make hybrid that is a bit sportier, they are the FX models. I'm sure that Trek is not the only maker with this type of hybrid. Usually on this kind of hybrid you won't find the front suspension though.

One of the things that sucks about bike shopping is that you can pick out a bike on-line, fall in love with it, but you can't find one to actually sit on and try out in the store. I've already had to order the bike never having seen it. Or the touring bike I bought off e-bay, I had never actually seen one before, not even in a bike shop.
I had to drive down to Falls Church, Va to get that bike. I still love that bike though.

One of the things that sucks about bike shopping is that you can pick out a bike on-line, fall in love with it, but you can't find one to actually sit on and try out in the store. I've already had to order the bike never having seen it. Or the touring bike I bought off e-bay, I had never actually seen one before, not even in a bike shop.
I had to drive down to Falls Church, Va to get that bike. I still love that bike though.

So good to buy online or not?

Jammin, my mom had the same parameters for injuries. She never bought Band-Aids and we hardly got cuts. The day she bought a box, we would seem to get cut up all over the place!

I hate hospitals. I've been in them way too much for my comfort. Stupid back injury.

Twist - that guy offered me to go out back for a ride on that thing but I just didn't like the shape of it at all. Why bother when I have no intention of riding it. I'm lousy with bike shops around here so hopefully they'll have one to try out. I think he said he would even get one in if I wanted because he sells quite a bit. That's very promising.

I really feel for you on the back injury. I would think that would be the worst type of pain because you ALWAYS feel it. Sitting, standing, laying-no relief.

Yep. Never any relief. There was a time right after the surgery that I felt good but I waited too long for the surgery and the residual damage is what has me fucked up. The neck is the worst of it all. I have not found a pillow that I can sleep on and since I always have gotten migraine headaches, they've quadrupled in frequency since this shit started. That's worse than any back pain. I've learned to live with it and I push through it. The biking has actually helped some. I haven't ridden in a little over a week but I'll get back into it again once this stupid hurricane passes and my headaches abate. I get them from weather systems normally but when I can't get a comfy position to sleep, that brings them on too. I use only a rolled up towel for a pillow now. I'm on a never ending quest for a comfy pillow.

Used bikes are always a gamble, especially if you've never actually seen it, like the one I bought. I figured that I paid $450.00 for it, and if I stripped it down I could sell the fork and frame for that. So as long as the frame was good I was in business.
Buying new on-line, if you can find a place that sells new on-line would be OK, if you know exactly what you want and the size. If you could test ride one at a shop and know you like it and make sure of the size you need......well, then, maybe.

Yeah, Twitch, being that it is gonna be a major purchase and a one time deal and you gotta live with it, make sure you get to ride it and play with it and have them explain everything, and get a couple of free tune-ups along with the deal.
Some places even rent bikes too, so if you could actually find a model that you wanted and rent it for a weekend.....then buy one.

Not sure if they rent out the expensive models. I'm in a beach town and most of the rentals are those stupid beach cruisers.

That guy tried to sell me a pink bike last night! I told him I'd rather ride a Hello Kitty bike than be caught dead on something like that! It was god awful Fugly too.

He was showing me some with disc brakes. One with 'brake pads' and another with hydraulic disc brakes. What's the deal with that? Good? Bad? one more thing to go wrong? Maintenance whore? What about if they get wet and I need to stop? He says "on a dime" then I asked if oil got on it, said the same.

That Sedona model had gear shifters that were 'part of' the handlebars. Meaning it was "wrapped around" it at the end of the grips and you 'twist' them. 21 gear cassette. I think he said Giant starts with 21 gears which is fine by me. I'm using 18 now. All internal workings on the shifters were plastic. He says no one makes metal internal workings anymore. But he boasted how the cables (inside the casing) were metal. Gee, really? eesh.

In the last 30 days I have watched "yellow submarine" 46 times or have heard it playing in the distance. When I hear "lonely people" I want to put my head through a vat of hot oil. That makes me sad, I used to like that damn song.
