This is my Kitchen now. I have a different light than the track lights you see here but I need to make some improvements to this place and it's probably going to be this weekend. Unlike the nuclear room - I'm not giving Matt much of a choice on this one.

What I am going to do is move all the cabinets up to the ceiling. Since these are on a track on the wall, it's very easy to do. Following the install instructions when we built them, we realized after the counters were in there isn't enough room under the counters for appliances. We moved one cabinet up already and it looks much nicer.

But I need to paint this thing. It's overdue. I have a really nice cantaloupe orange I picked out - I'm talking the exact color of the fruit's flesh.

Light like this one:

I need to replace a lot of tiles on the floor too, now the dog is gone. He had really hard nails and managed to chip some of them and there is a nasty funk from using Future Floor Polish on them that will not come off. I fought the company and they insist it's the floor. No it's not. I've seen this before. I have spare tiles downstairs.

Anyway, the kitchen is a very small space. It won't really be a blast of orange. I am so undecided if I should paint the ceiling the same color as the walls or stay with my usual white ceilings like the rest of the house.

Leave the ceilings white, that way it will look like creamsicle.

White ceilings will provide a contrast to the cantaloupe.

You do see how small the room is, don't you? It won't be much of a contrast.

This would be the first time I paint a ceiling the same color as the walls too - if I do it.

My friend Bobby thinks I should get oil based high gloss paint for this. wot hell no

Go with a color two or three shades lighter than the cantaloupe. Ceilings should never be white. Smile

Oh-I agree to the hell no of oil based paint. If you go any higher than a semi-gloss it will be SHINY. I don't even use semi at all. Too much shine for my tastes, but some people like it in high traffic areas.

Great idea about raising the cupboards. Love the floor and countertops.

OOHH YES! I never thought of that! I love that idea.
We have a satin finish on there now and it really doesn't hold up to all the washing and cooking in there. I was considering a high gloss just because it holds up to the washing and stuff. Maybe I'll go with satin again and put three coats on and let it get hard.

The trim around the doors (view behind what you see in the pic) is black to match the floor. So the cantaloupe will go good with that. I have a swatch tucked into the molding and I like how it looks.

Wanna see that kitchen before we gutted and remodeled it?
Here's a side by side before/after. This place even had the 1960's fruit wallpaper! Barf

The before is truly horrific. I absolutely hate soffits. I have them in my kitchen and I cannot wait to rip them out of my kitchen. The lady that we bought the house from had either stenciling or sponge painting on every single wall in this house. Not only that, the color choices were hideous. I have painted every single room in this house and some rooms 3 times. Paint is cheap and give instant results so I really enjoy it. I have also painted all the cabinets in my kitchen white for now. Will eventually rip them out and put in new ones.

Obviously you can tell I enjoy talking decorating. I am obsessed. I have been looking for a design school in my area but there aren't any. Now I need to decide on a next step. Maybe a community college or jr college will have some kind of course.......

And another FYI about picking colors-I always go a shade lighter than the one I actually like. I have gone with the exact color I originally pick and every single time it turned out too dark, and I love dark colors. Some paint stores will sell samples for $2.99 to try it out.

I do the same thing. It's never what it looks like on the swatch.

Sponge painting! How awful! That's right up there in the ugly with textured ceilings. Try cleaning those! Goddamn filth magnets is what they are.

This house has/had paneling all over. Not nice paneling, but the cheap, ugly shit that was made of particle board with a rubbery vinyl coating on it with a design of flowers and stripes. WTF? I should snap a pic of this room as it's the last of it and my bedroom. Sadly we didn't have time to rip it off the bedroom before we moved in. It was a choice of the living room or the bedroom and we took the living room project. Try painting over that shit! Even with the primer, you need six coats. The nuclear room - refer to that for pics on what happens when you pull that shit off. Assholes glued it to the walls. If Matt ever finishes that room for me, this room is next - ripping that shit off. I should just sell the house and find a more suitable place - lol.

Today I start prepping the kitchen. Pulling shit out of the cabinets and putting it in another room. We'll go to HD tonight for paint.
