0 That pony looks like my Tootsie Roll. She was great. Poor thing died of colic. We couldn't save her even with surgery.

0 He's a cute little guy... not sure if he's a mini or not, but I think so... he's kind of a large mini though.
Colic is awful, sorry you lost your kiddo. ![]()
Why yes, I am in fact mocking you.

0 Yeah, I used all the ponies to pull and ride. Tootsie was a blast.
I dont' think your guy is a mini, probably a good amount of Shetland in him or a full American bred Shetland which tends to be a little bigger than the British breds. ![]()

0 Someone at another forum has a relative trying to give away their two horses. He said he's tired of taking care of them. Who thinks like that?

Support mental health care... or I'll kill you.

0 You'd be surprised at how many do. I never paid for a horse when I was keeping them. Many people give them away instead of selling them.

0 I could never give away a pet. Although I did give away a bird once, but that bastard didn't really care anyway. He went to live with a nice old lady and probably had it way better than he did with me anyway. Ungrateful whistling prick.
Lots of people still think of horses as livestock, something to be traded, bought, and sold.

0 I gave away a very old pony that deserved a better home. Bambi was a great old lady but when I had to retire her due to age and because she deserved it, the other ponies picked on her mercilessly. She was unhappy and it showed. I found a lovely place in Maryland that had an older couple who just wanted something tiny to look at and live it's life out on their small farm. Bambi lived until the ripe old age of 40 with them.

0 I don't think Blaze (the one Skye is on) is a mini OR a shetland. I think shetlands are bigger than that...
As for Hunter (the pinto), he's a mutt. ![]() (10-03-2010, 01:08 PM)Twitchin Kitten Wrote: Yeah, I used all the ponies to pull and ride. Tootsie was a blast.

0 There are a lot of people giving away horses these days. That's how we got Hunter (and I never expected a 'give away' pony to be that nice). It can get very expensive to feed and care for horses, especially in the winter or when they have vet bills.
Heck, I wasn't aware of it, but nowadays, you have to have a Coggins certificate for your horse to haul him around. It's not very expensive, but when you combine the $25 test fee with the $50 vet fee, it's getting up there... and you have to do that once a year, in addition to shots. And fortunately, the guy who is keeping Hunter now trims hooves, because farriers used to be about $50 when I had my last horses done... but now a farrier visit runs around $100, and that has to be done every few months. PLUS the cost of feed. Horses are not a poor man's hobby (but we're doing the best we can).
