There were 5 tips on making better coffee, the only one I might bother trying is this one.

Deep "double clutch" extraction
Some 168 million Americans use a filter coffee brewer. But how many of them know how to crank up their brew by double-pouring? To do this, pour half the water you typically use into your coffee machine and let the maker do its thing. Once the brewer stops dripping (and, say, you've made toast), add the second half of the water. This will extract more flavor out of your bean in a way that will seriously please you, without changing a thing.

I may try that if I use that nasty drip machine again.

I've been using an electric percolator for years now. The coffee is less bitter and much hotter. I hate tepid coffee.

Now wtf is with the drill on the hand crank machine? Christ Almighty, just buy an electric grinder!

I have an old electric grinder with a broken blade.
I still use it everyday.
All the other stuff in that link....meh.
My $9 coffee maker makes wonderful coffee, except that is it not very hot, it is great for guzzling though. Every morning the first cup comes to the computer with me, I zap it in the microwave for about 40 seconds before I leave the kitchen. Then usually the second cup is the guzzle cup.
Why does the pot on the maker say 10 cups but it fits into 2 of my cups?

I cannot stand the taste of coffee when it is heated in a microwave.

It's not heated from being cold, just a little zap.
I know what you mean about no liking it though, I can't stand reheated coffee, day old coffee, or coffee that is not fresh. That is one of the reasons I kinda like my cheapo coffee maker that don't get very warm, it can sit for awhile and it doesn't get cooked out.

twist's first rule to gas station coffee buying. If there are pots sitting on hot plates do not even waste your time, grab a coke and leave.

Yeah, we drink tons of it in this house too. I've a cabinet full of flavored deliciousness

When it's time, I'm going to hit that Gevalia thing again and get the fall and winter spiced coffees they sell. They're heaven and even better if you make a fine grind and make cappuccino with it.
