I don't know if I'll get in shape that fast! And I don't know if that crappy bike of mine would even be up to a trip like that if I were in shape! I actually don't like the angle the seat sits behind the pedals. It's about 10º behind them.

If I start to really dig riding again, I'll save up and get a decent bike.

I was just afraid that my car would slip out of gear, break loose and smash the hell outta the other cars, pushing them over the side of the ferry into the water. Actually, that would have been pretty funny.

No1 son and Henry have to travel light, because Phil' has panniers he is taking Henry's clothes. He was fairly disgusted when Henry gave him a supermarket plastic bag containing :
1x Tee 1X boxers 1x pair of socks. Swoon NO towel, wash kit or shaving stuff (he has been shaving since he was 14! He grew a beard at 17 when his girlfriend left him)
He told Henry he would have to sleep outside on the 3rd day, which Henry pointed out they were outside since they were camping. Phil meant outside the tent wot

Cars and Ferries- I bet the ferryman have loads of stories. When we were on a ralley in Germany we had to cross on a specially commissioned ferry to Switzerland for a 3pm sailing. If you were late you had to wait for the public ferry later in the day. We got there ok although we had to re-set the points on a mountian road after going through a box of oddments at a lonely petrol station.
Anyway, 34 cars were loaded including a rather strange American couples car (well she was weird) who then went off shopping! He came back and got on the ferry and as we pulled away she was there jumping up and down on the quay screaming at us to come back. We didn't. When we off loaded there was a lone Saab 99, no driver, locked and impenatrable in the middle of the deck. Eventually it was discovered he too had got off the ferry and was with the American woman, with his keys.
Late that night they turned up at the end of the event together. He was Belgian and didn't speak English. That must have been a fun trip for them.

8 more days of going to that place till vacation.
Yesterday sucked too, but I was able to keep my feet almost dry. It was hot as hell and I had to make a couple small tanks of stuff. Small tanks suck because you don't have as much time to get them under control and make them good. Big tanks are nice, you have time to relax.

I got my new sleeping pad yesterday as I expected. It's pretty comfortable, I was gonna sleep on the floor last night just to try it out, you know, set up my tent in my bedroom and pretend I was camping. The cats would have just loved that.

Remember my Scruffy cat? The one that just showed up and decided to stay? I posted a pic somewhere of him. Well, he is still here, waiting every morning at 5am by the food dish, sleeping on the hot tub, he is always here. But he won't let us touch him yet, he will get very close, so close that we can touch him, but he jumps and runs. The problem is that he needs to go to the vet, you can hear that his breathing is rough, that he has a cold or something, he has fleas and ear mites and stuff so bad that he scratches his neck till he bleeds, and he has a set off balls that need to be removed. We work on him every day, giving him Whiskas cat milk, canned food, whatever will make him want to be around us, he just won't give in yet, the little bastard. If he would just give in I'd get him to the vet and get him fixed up. Anyway, I figure at least he's getting steady food here and has a better chance of being healthy just by having a steady diet than whatever the skinny little shit was doing before. Also, if he knows what is good for him he would give in to me and be friendly, he might get the burrs brushed out of him like the other cats do and in the winter time our strays get access to our heated basement. Also I won out and the name Scruffy has stuck.
Eh crap.....lemme look for another pic.

He looks good compared to the description you gave.

He doesn't have snotty nose or runny eyes, so no "cold" (cats do NOT catch colds. it's URI or nothing).

You can start to lure him into smaller and smaller areas and catch him with a butterfly net. Grab him by the scruff of the neck and lower him back end first into a crate to the vet. But, the problem still remains that he's going to be unruly at the vets and impossible to deal with. He'll come around in time. They all do. Sometimes all you have to do is park a chair by his favorite lounging spot, grab a book and read for awhile and he'll come by you and let you pet him. Sometimes they'll even plop on your lap unexpectedly. Touching him comes right behind that. Try hanging out in the chair with one arm hanging down - see if he comes up to you and 'pets himself'.

The little bastard will come right over to us, he is looking for food or milk. There is always dry food out for them but he gets the good stuff and he knows it. But when I put a hand out he gets jumpy. He has come right over and sniffed my hand, but jumps if I touch him. I keep lightly grabbing his tail, that doesn't seem to make him to nervous. I'm pretty sure I could catch him, but I don't want to traumatize him and getting a vet appointment for the time of the attempted catch would be tricky.
He's just got to give in and be one of the gang so I can make an appointment and keep it.

Also, I've taken truly wild cats into the vet, I get everyone prepared for the beast that is coming out of the cage to rip us all to shreds and leave us bleeding and crying for our mommies, and they all turn into great big pussies, purring, cuddling the vet, sometimes the viscious ones make me ashamed of them.

Tuxedo J. Pussycat was a stray that was a scardy cat, it took all of about two days to coax him out of the shadows and he was in my arms purring and loving it. Now you would never guess that he was ever afraid of us. I always wonder though, if any of these strays would ever let anyone else get near to them or not.

Some do and some don't. Thing 2 loves me but if Matt comes in the room, she darts out of there like he's Godzilla. She wasn't a stray! We had her from 9 weeks old.

I had a stray I trapped ages ago. She had an older kitten and a litter of babies who havent' even opened their eyes yet. I had to trap her with a hav-a-heart trap and it took her years before she came up to me and let me pet her. I just let them do it on their terms.

Go easy on the milk. Cats are lactose intolerant and it will prevent him from gaining weight. He's shitting out all the food you give him from the milk. Give him KMR or that crappy cat milk they sell if you must give him milk. They can tolerate goats milk though. Less lactose in it. I'm like you, I spoil the pathetic ones.

He'll come around. You should start vaccinating yourself. You can get the stuff cheap through Omaha Vaccine, KV Vet or Drs. Foster and Smith. I prefer the Docs... they give you a chart on what to vaccinate for and when and they show how to do it. Upstate NY you should be able to still get syringes too. The vaccines sometimes come dosed out per syringe. Rabies is the only thing you cannot vaccinate yourself for.

I only give them the little boxed cat milk, the house cats are addicted to catsip.
One of our cats a few years back had diabetes later in her life, among other problems, and I had to give her shots every 12 hours for the last year or two she was with us.

Since this has turned into a cat thread. I have one, she's been around for probably over 12 years now. She is just here, just so happy to have food, so happy to have attention, so happy to get into the basement every winter. She's never been to the vet, never been sick, never had a kitten. She is a true stray. She is even pretty coy around us, sometimes I can pet her, sometimes not, sometimes I can even pick her up.
When she was younger there were summers where we would not see her for 2 to 3 months, then she would show back up, skinny and hungry, but as she has gotten older she has become a steady resident.
This is Patch:[Image: 06-06-10.jpg]
She looks pretty scruffy in this picture, she has that long hair and it gets matted and full of burrs in the summer, fall, and winter, then every spring she molts and leaves big clumps of fur around, usually enough to make another cat or two. Then it all grow back in nice and soft and clean over the summer. Right now she is looking pretty normal again, and she is staying out of the burrs and sticker bushes.

Did I make it? Huh? Did I make it early enough to legally post in the early morning thread?

OK I'm going to wipe the sleep out of my eyes and I'll be back after breakfast to read the rest of the board Rofl
I'm literally typing with one eye open.

I've completely lost my mind.

This is the most useless time of the day.
A resolution to avoid an evil is seldom framed till the evil is so far advanced as to make avoidance impossible.

Chugging a pot of coffee before work again, 5 more days after today till vacation.
Man, I got my ass handed to me again yesterday. I got to eat a sandwich at about 11:00 am then never got away again till after 4pm when I left to come home.
Sometimes I wonder if it is worth it. Today has to go better, right? [Image: fc695151.gif]

I think I want to own a bed and breakfast/bike shop/coffee shop.
