She showed me a glass of tap water once and it was milky white!

0 Im pretty sure that you don't need to worry about the radon emitted from your granite countertops, If that were the case just about every courthouse in the country would be boarded up.
I have installed marble, granite and other types of tops in homes for many years, the VOC tags for the products are available and none indicate any type of exposure problem. The biggest issue with granite is the maintenance cracks, absorbs stains and requires sealing periodically , the sealant should be of the low VOC kind if not the sealant is much worse for air quality than the stone itself.
A resolution to avoid an evil is seldom framed till the evil is so far advanced as to make avoidance impossible.
