Ok, some don't think that racing is a sport so if you want to TK we could move this to the Garage.

"Some people drive around in circles looking for the finish line. REAL racers go straight for it!"
John Force

You can keep NASCAR. Rally isn't televised enough to hold my interest. Same with Formula 1 and SCCA. The Indy cars are pretty good but again they lack regular coverage.

NHRA on the other hand has great coverage and ticket prices are far more reasonable than the left-straight-left-straight guys.

For those not familiar with this form of racing beyond the local street racers there are 4 professional classes.

Top Fuel: T/F 500 cu in engine running on a mixture of 90% nitromethane and 10% methanol producing 8000 horsepower!

[yt]E7Qnoz_HyK8[/yt]

Funnycar: AA/FC Same engine and fuel as T/F but on a 120 in wheelbase frame and a fiberglass body.

[yt]w2zmW5yfSAY[/yt]

(Hey TK.....recognize the track?)

Pro Stock: PS 500 cu in engine powered by maximum 114 octane gasoline. The doors must really work and most of the central portion of the body is factory metal. They are manually shifted 5 speed transmissions.

[yt]m3_7qyzqY-w[/yt]

(Who says drag racers don't really drive?)

Pro Stock Motorcycle: PSM 250 plus horsepower 2 wheeled ground rockets!

I can watch pretty much any kind of racing. I have more of a chance of watching a race than football, or basketball, or hockey, or baseball, or golf, etc, etc.

Just wait till this July when I force you guys to be interested in the tour de france.

LOL Twistie. Every time I think of or see a bicycle race the Jazz album by Queen runs through my head. Are you a Fat Bottom Girl? Rofl

I live half hour from Raceway Park, Englishtown. I Heart drag racing! The night of thrills is coming soon! Yeah, funny cars at night, flames, burned rubber and loud cars going real fast. That's my thing.

I like Indy racing but NASCAR bores the hell out of me. Indy racing used to get a lot of coverage when I was young. Anyone remember ABC's Wide World of Sports on Saturday afternoon? Lots of good stuff you'd see there. It was the drag racing that used to be the rare viewing. Seems it's swapped now.

If I had the money, I'd go to one of those drag racing schools. I'd love to drive a Top Fuel (rail for all you geezers who still call it that - I usually do Tongue ) racer.

When I was a youngster, I had a pretty fast motorcycle, I took it to the local track and drag raced it one Sunday afternoon. I had a blast. I can see how people get addicted to doing that stuff, however like most everthing else, it is a big money sport.

When I was younger I had a super fast Pontiac. It was a true sleeper. A 1962 Catalina 389 cu in wide wedge worked to hell and back with secret (NO I won't tell anyone what I did) work on the suspension and transmission. It was all legal for NHRA so it was all good. The best I ever mustered out of it was a 10.56 @ 131 MPH down at Atco Dragway in Atco,NJ.

It was a street legal machine too...well barely.

If it weren't for the $$$ I'd have never gotten rid of that car.

Such as?

If you're referring to 4 wide at zMax in Charlotte, they already did it a couple weeks ago.

Great new concept in drag racing! 32,000 horsepower traversing the strip all at once!!!!!!

Kudos to track owner Bruton Smith. He's also planning on expanding the track at Las Vegas to 4 lanes in the near future.

I don't mind drag racing, I think its quite exciting in terms of the sheer speed and horsepower on display.

I generally concentrate on Formula one, MotoGP racing bikes and British touring cars.

I dunno if the old guy has it in him or not, but he's gonna give it a run, I'm pretty sure of that.
