No, I personally like the Subaru's. My wife has a Legacy, my Dad is on his second Outback. Good cars all told, can get them with all the bells and whistles now. There is a really good Subaru mechanic down the street, so nobody goes to the dealer for any work.
Between your two mentions, I would go Subaru. I would not trust the Alfa for reliability, and repair costs will be MUCH higher. In Colorado, it seems like every other car is a Subaru, some of them ancient.
