So she's home. Going for a full detailing over this coming weekend. Pics will come after that as she's FILTHY from the work done and the rain and road schmutz.
This governor is killing cars with the damn brine and salt. Stupid fucks in government - every time one of them makes a blunder it's overkill forever there on out. He throws out brine whenever the rains come too. Cars are going to be ruined fast. All those roads Christie fixed are going to go right to hell fast. Many already are.

There's no real thought put into the road treatment these days. PA is AFU too but not quite as bad as NJ. I seems that NJ is all or nothing when it comes to pre-treat and after snowfall salting.
PA is on a travel ban/restriction kick now. They aren't as holy shit heavy on the brine and salt but they will treat 2 days before any foul weather will even get here!
You know all of this is in part due to idiots who don't know how to drive on slick roads but still get out there, cause havoc and then threaten to sue because it's "the highway department's fault". Many of them are people I like to call "4 wheel slide" drivers. They think that since they have 4 wheel drive that they can drive 70 mph on slick roads and be fine.

Our last snow storm I saw a bunch of these idiots. EVERY vehicle in trouble, doing something stupid or stuck was either all wheel drive or four wheel drive. I think it's dipshits that never knew what it was like to drive an old rear wheel drive car, and now they think their fucking Subaru Forester or piece of shit Audi can go 80 in snow just like dry pavement...

We have those morons here too. Last time I took the car out there was a melt and when I got home she literally had 1/4" thick layer of salt on her. I had to go through the car wash to get that shit off her and from underneath.
I gotta say that the stuff I buy to detail with really hangs on even through the mechanical wash! Beaded up like it was ceramic coated. No wax!
So Biker - you don't like the Forrester?
We're shopping for a new SUV for when my lease is up and I am leaning heavily towards one of those. I do want to test drive SUV's in the winter and I probably should get to it. My lease is up in January and everyone I know loves their Forrester. I keep gravitating toward the Alfa Romeo Stelvio but dam it's expensive and repairs will be costly. It's also a tiny bit too small for the music gear.

No, I personally like the Subaru's. My wife has a Legacy, my Dad is on his second Outback. Good cars all told, can get them with all the bells and whistles now. There is a really good Subaru mechanic down the street, so nobody goes to the dealer for any work.
Between your two mentions, I would go Subaru. I would not trust the Alfa for reliability, and repair costs will be MUCH higher. In Colorado, it seems like every other car is a Subaru, some of them ancient.

I had one in '87 through '89 and loved it. Little hatchback unibody construction and you couldn't kill it. Got rear ended one day and the driver seat broke through the floor on one of the seat rails. I threw a wide piece of metal under it and kept on going for nearly a year until my new truck came in.
I think I had close to 700K miles on that little car.
The Alfa just melts me. I had one ages ago, a '76 Alfetta and I just loved that car. It didn't give us a day's worry, but yeah, those costs will kill me.
I really leaned toward the Explorer or the Expedition but dammit if you can't have a third row seat remove option. I don't give a shit if they fold flat. They'll stay folded flat for the entire time I own it wasting valuable space that could be used as a storage compartment via hatch or something. It's a damn mini-bus which may be good for families, not so much for me. Plus Ford is just about eliminating the manual transmission options for all their vehicles except the Mustang. What crap. They're already having issues with the automatics in the big trucks. Anyone who had driven over those mountains out west knows you need to pick and choose your gears. If one gear blows in an automatic, they're all useless. At least with a manual you can get a high enough rev to skip a gear and carry on then get it fixed.
I gotta get into a Subaru dealer and start asking questions. There is going to be some overlap in payments due to the shitty timing of the lease ending in January so I need to know exactly what i want.

My Dad was debating getting a Forester, not sure why. His Outback is a '13, hardly any miles. Then he says since his first car was a Ford, his last one should be too. Don't know what he would buy. The Bronco. I have a truck, he doesn't need one. Don't know. When he bought the '13 Outback it was between it and a GT convertible Mustang. Polar opposite cars...

I dunno. I need to check those Subaru's more. I was online looking and once I put the bells and whistles in I can get those in a lower priced Lincoln or Explorer for around the same money. I don't think it will have the cargo capacity we need. No options anymore on damn near anything but a Mustang for a manual transmission. The Explorer offers proper 4WD over AWD, which I just am not happy with. I'd rather pick and choose what format I'm driving and save gas that way. All the engines seem small and the only thing with the Subaru's is that they know how to make the power in a small, automatic engine than the American manufacturers.
Not so sure yet on if I should look at Dodge. Forget GM/Chevy. That'll never happen. I should split this thread.

Don't bother. They only have the Durango right now and those are crap.
For a Chrysler produced SUV the Jeep Cherokee line is the best bet.
