Yeah but I actually like my job regardless of the cash value of doing Top Gear. Unless I had a solid guarantee of enough that I would never have to work again it's not worth the gamble.
Yeah I know....nothing ventured, nothing gained but, I'm just a bit too old for that philosophy. The potential vs the known loss just doesn't balance and since 60 is just a short block away in my journey...........
Besides that.......I'm not the HUMOUNGOUS gearhead they seek. I'm way better on classic muscle and nitro munching, fire breathing monsters than I am on euro exotics and road course nimble machinery.
My monthly periodical fare growing up was Hot Rod, Super Stock and Drag Illustrated, Drag Racing Monthly, The Elapsed Times and a few other short lived mags published by Peterson Publishing. Car and Driver and Motor Trend fell off my radar by the time I was 15. That's when they moved more to the European & luxury/performance markets.
Although the mechanical aspects are the same when taken to basics, the focus is far different.
Now off road stuff is in my library as is 2 wheeled performance but yet again, if you introduce the euro flavor I am uneducated as well as mostly uninterested.
So in the long view, I am not what they would look for.
