Found the info. They're on the uprise and the numbers have not been counted down to 500.
That pic I posted could very well be one of them. Sadly it's too dark to tell and I didn't have a flash on the camera at the time for fear it would drive it away. That's up in the rafter of the stable in front of my stallion's stall during the daytime.
We have brown bats here too. These guys hibernate with them.
They are Indiana bats.

Edit to add photo:
I isolated him out from the rafter and did my best to lighten his fur and stuff with Photoshop. Comparing the photos in the link my little guy just might be one of them.
