It is most likely a SPST relay, they are the simplest. You need check voltage across the switched legs. When they relay is de-energized, you should read nothing. When it is energized, you will read voltage. 12V if it is just a relay for say the heater, could be 5V if it is in the computerized side. But I would check the voltage on the other side too, to see if your switching current is there.
BULLSHIT. There has to be a way to tell a relay is bad. I know you can hear clicking if some of them are bad. Had that with the truck once. There's no way someone will make it so that you have to spend hundreds to test a two dollar item.
