It keeps going 'ping' and then 10 seconds 'ping' for about a minute then eventually, it turns the lights off, and shuts down after about 5 minutes- you can still rummage but it is better to shut the door to rescue the tempertures.
It is useful if (as Mark will do) you just let the door swing and it doesn't shut fully, both on the freezer side and the fridge side. The freezer door has a control panel to control settings and fast freeze or 'shopping-mode' (Mark wanted the ice maker and water cooler, until we saw how much extra it was AND we needed a plumber for the water supply). The shopping mode is good, it will adjust the temperture on the three drawers depending on what you put in it, one is for fresh meat/fish, so gets cooler than the rest of the fridge. Then once the fridge is re-stocked or we go off to bed-it is day-light sensitive. It shuts down to a 'sleep-mode' saving electricity. It only wakes up once the door is open again.
We are really pleased with it.
Our last fridge and freezer cabinets were individual and lasted 24 years. It would be great if this one did.
