I had a long lens on the camera too, I think I managed to get within 15/18 feet without him getting jittery. I was close enough not to startle him and that was good for the lens. You don't have to tell me they can be dangerous! I'm a born and raised city gal and I had to pull people away from a charging bison bull (custer state park), a female elk in yellowstone (dopey bitch was carrying her infant in her arms and wanted to pet it! and a female Moose up on top of the road home over the Big Horn mountains. Some foreign people allowed their kid to go pet the big "horsey". People are truly stupid with wildlife.
