RE: Upstairs bathroom remodel. - LH - 08-22-2010

My toilet was leaking a few months ago around the bolts that hold the tank to the base. I tried to replace the bolts but they are rusted to hell, so I dried the tank and gooped it up. It lasted awhile and in the meantime bought a toilet some luan and 12x12 sticky tiles. My water bill has been high because the damn thing started leaking again. So yesterday I started tearing up the floor around the toilet. There was a layer of lino and luan and another layer of lino then a sub-floor.
All day yesterday I was tearing up the floor and have finally got it down 4x8 ft around the toilet. My next step is taking off the toilet and redoing the floor around it in just that area so I can get the toilet back on and then move on to do the rest of it. My water & sewer bill was 150.00 for two months and I am hoping to get my money back in the savings from not wasting so much water. What a pain in the assbum. This project will take me about a month as I am making the cabinets and tiling around the sink and tub. I know when I am done that there will just be another project after this.........life ticks on......
I like what you have done around your tub and like the web backed tiles so much easier than the old 4x4 seperated pieces they used to use. Good

I know both my aunts have, although Marianne's I think is an add on in the utility room (they are not so common here, but very popular if a house has one). Deirdre house was the one! Every bedroom had ensuite! Including the room the boys shared. Deirdre said the previous owner had two boys and the bathroom had two sinks and a wet room. Jeff had never seen anything like it before.
Our bathroom (offical guest rooms) was 'body sensitive'. Walk in and the lights would come on (no window) the taps came on when you put your hands under them- like you get in cloakrooms sometimes.
Brilliant! Clap
But Deirdre said it was a pain with all the housework. So the boys thoughtfully used our shower (we got the wet floor) and only one sink in their room.

My next house WILL have a shower room and a bathroom.

Oh those motion sensitive faucets, flushers and lights are brilliant and are getting more and more common here. Germs you know. They're selling liquid soap with a motion sensitive dispenser now too.

Yeah, how dirty are your hands AFTER you wash them?
And did you know they say the bathroom has the least germs and bacteria than all your home? I think they did a test on that on Mythbusters too and came up the same.

I don't worry about my bathroom or my kitchen, those are my germs and stuff. I have the germ phobia in public places, I don't like to even touch a door handle, faucet, paper towel dispenser, etc.
Someone elses house skeeves me out too, I hate using the bathroom, actually it's the whole hand washing thing, touching their dirty faucets and then looking for a towel that seems to not be a community towel, then trying to get out with out actually touching the door knob.

No1 son has a friend who's 19 year old brother is like that but includes home. He spends ages cleaning doors/the bathroom adn kitchen, but the front room is covered in bird shit from the pet parrot!
Mind you- Roger is Autisic.

So you're ok with handling money and sticking it in strippers knickers?
Do you know where they have been?Shok
Rumour has it every dollar bill has traces of cocaine Whistle

I will actually buy a shirt or something at the salvation army store or off of e-bay and wear it without washing it, don't bother me a bit. Money can skeeve me out now and again. Strippers knickers never bother me. I would roll around with a dirty stripper and never give it a second thought.
I can have a stripper wrap her calf around my neck and slam my face into her crotch, give her a couple of dirty dollars, get a lap dance from her, etc, then if I use the bathroom in the place I'm using a paper towel or my foot to open the door to get out.

You're like me Twistie. I go as far as carrying around personal toilet covers and still hover to pee.

They have nice Kleenex paper towels now for guests. Pop up dispensers mean no more people touching the roll of PT I have on a spool Smile
Yes, in my house I do consider guests not wanting to touch anything so I put out paper towels and have pump dispensers for them. The handle is not round but a lever on all my doors too. Smile

Public rest rooms gross me out. I grab paper towels BEFORE I wash, hold them between my knees while washing and save a small piece to grab the door handle with in case no one is entering by the time I'm ready to leave. I've been known to wash my hands and dry them on my pants if there were no towels. Dungarees are made for that! If there are no towels then I wait for someone to come in so I can leave Smile

Yeah, I'm a weirdo.

I will even use my shirt tail to open the door. I will run paper towels out of the dispenser, then wash my hands, leave the water running, use a paper towel to turn of the water, and open the door. I will then hold the door with my foot and throw out the paper towel, or take it with me and throw it out where I can. I even scope the area before I go in for the nearest garbage can to ditch a paper towel in.

Rest stops along the interstates are usually a whole other adventure.
