Trailers AND trucks.  My son had a truck full of equipment stolen out of a hotel parking lot, delayed that job by like 4 days.

Here is the car.

I can't see the emblem clearly. Is it the little Mazda? I like the color.

Yeah, they have some shit the musicians are now using that is a hidden GPS tracker inside their equipment now. It's a little pricey, but the equipment is more costly to lose and replace.

Yeah, it's a Mazda3.  Pretty fancy for the price tag.  Was quite a bit more refined that the VW.  It's a pretty color, I'll see if I have one in the sun.

Sure seems like a pain in the ass.  And even if shit is insured, it is a giant pain in the ass to get it replaced.

Plus the fact that even if you get the gear replaced, it isn't exactly the same. At least if it's the instruments. But, even with amps, mixers etc they will still have a different "feel".

Gear/instrument theft around here is a rarity (at least for now).

I know. Especially if you have a rare or vintage guitar or just something that has great sentimental value to you.

So the Explorer is out. Test drove the sport model today. it's OK, but my feet don't reach the floor so my legs lose circulation behind the knee and down to the feet. 4WD is a joke. I called it cute. Little pictures on a dial FFS. The sport model boasts 4x4 compared to the other models boasting AWD but that's a lie. then there's the cargo compartment. Nope. It's only 7" bigger than the edge. Looks like we're going with the Expedition and I wasn't able to test drive one of those because they were doing road work and it took me 15 mins to get back to the dealer from 3 doors down the road. I can test one tomorrow or something.

I'm not thrilled that the Expedition comes with the same 6 cylinder engine as the Explorer Sport and it's 800 pounds heavier. That's 4 fat people. Or 4 giants or 2 fat people and 2 skinny people. Or 3 super fatties and a baby. Imagine a few hundred more pounds in musical equipment? ugh. it does have a safe. yes, a freakin' safe. so much shit I don't need. I just want proper 4x4 that I won't call "cute" and room for the band plus one human.

The only difference in the Explorer's cargo room from the Edge's is that the top-line does not taper. big whoop. All seats flattened do NOT lie flat. They are somewhat flat and are at a downhill slant towards the rear. great.

Bring some of yo shit and see how well it packs in. If the dealer has a problem, he obviously doesn't want a sale.

For what it's worth, we have always bought through a broker, not the dealer. Even on new. Only one we didn't was my Honda.

we intend to. But I had a tape measure with me and it was literally 7" bigger with both rows of seats down. It's not as wide as we'll need either. Chevy's Suburban is bigger than the Expedition and has a V8 option, but I'm not very fond of their business model of late and it's so expensive. over $900/month just to lease! I can't do that.

We packed up that Edge to the brim and couldn't add a second human aside from the driver. I would always have to follow in another car if we take another Edge. I dunno, this is definitely going to be a major undertaking.

My Ford dealer will work us a good deal, but there is only so much they can do. Matt is NOT mechanically inclined in any way where we can buy something much older. I'm just so disappointed in that Explorer and the fact that Ford is not offering a V8 in any vehicle except Mustangs and Raptors and diesels now. FML

soooooo..... Looking like the F150 for the win. Get a cap and use it that way if everything is too tall for a hard tonneau.

I can get a Super Cab, 8' bed and the 8 cylinder engine, tow package and some luxuries for WAY less than any SUV and that's with 4x4 and more luxuries for the Lariat edition.

Raptor is nice but it only has a 5 1/2' bed. seriously? Gonna get a truck might as well do it right. 8' bed all the way.

Gonna be a pain in the ass to get the band shit out, but I KNOW it will all fit and caps come on and off. I still have my Load Handler and we can use that to "pull" stuff from the back if necessary. We'll work it out.

Can you get up in a truck? Maybe they can get you a step stool, or like a rope ladder...
