I wasn't talking about major viscosity breakdown. Minor loss of viscosity is normal for any lubricant over its lifespan. This is the viscosity change I meant.

It is noticible if you pay attention and a good indicator of the need to consider changing.

Filter changes are another point of contention. I have always gone with the every other oil change schedule and never had a problem. Just like extending the time between oil changes the savings over a vehicle's life are worthwhile.

(Giving away my age here) I remember the old replaceable element style filters and a roll of toilet paper (had to roll enough off to make it fit) was an accepted material. (WAY cheaper than a "store bought" filter element too.)

I agree that using a synthetic is cheaper in the long run due to the greatly extended lifespan. In a synth I like Castrol Syntech although all the synths are essentially the same base material. Just an additive here or there is the difference between brands.

Racing formulations work extremely well for street applications and have a nearly inconceivable lifespan. It would be no problem going 15k between changes with a synth from say Amalie or Red Line. Depending on how hard you run 20k would be a safe change point.

If you REALLY want to find out just how well your chosen oil is doing you need to send a sample for analysis. BUT....that ain't cheap! Doing it just once though would give you a good guideline and over the course of a vehicle's lifespan you could easily recoup the cost and save in the long run.

My Boss told us on Friday he has sold the shop. wot

This is my third place where the owners have sold up. This is the third owner to also say 'Nothing will change- your contract will continue' wot

Trying to be positive, we've been told it is at least a young couple buying and not a chain. They are moving into the area so 'need us' to keep the transition for the local patients and surgeries.

Down side is- it is a young 'couple'. There is nothing worse than working for 2 bosses.
They are not local and I can see repercussions because they are of Iraqi descendant (very common in Pharmacy). I can see our very elderly clients being racialist (this is a military area- tankies are only down the road!) and we (staff) will be the buffer.

I feel a bit bitter that my boss was told not to tell us (staff) until contracts had been signed by his solicitors- I object to being treated as a part of 'the good will' or fixtures & fittings- like being a wife back in the Army Dodgy

I do understand that it was likely to happen eventually- just I thought we were a good enough team for him to have let us know. After all I'm not going anywhere else- this job is what I want to do.

Going to miss that team - he was a really good boss to me

He was probably told by the new owners. I'd put out my resume and find a new job. Owners who show sneakiness can't be trusted.

I wouldn't consider that sneakiness I look at it as due diligence, trust is earned not just given, the new owners have alot of skin in the game so they need to protect themselves as much as possible. They don't know yet who is a good worker who sucks all they have to go by is numbers and the businesses success on paper.
I recently had been considering acquiring someone elses business and it was very important the owner did not say anything to the staff that he was considering to sell because I wanted to see how the staff truly behaved and I learned alot and why not to buy that business with what i saw.

That's different than what Trudi described. Once you they knew they wanted the business there should have been no secrecy after that.

I do know they haven't been into the shop when it is open. Boss assures us (staff) we are very much wanted. I told Julie I'm not prepared to carry them and neither is she- we are not paid enough to teach.

David has been more open since he has told us and his wife came in and apologized for all the cloak and dagger. I again told her I felt very much like a package deal. Anyway, I reminded them to take me off the security as a key holder, which they hadn't thought about. I also said I would hand my key in and told Julie to do the same, then there can be no repercussions. Julie said her old boss's wife was always accusing the staff of stealing (it turned out to be their daughter).

I jokingly said to Julie we should use Pirate speak when the new owners start (they are moving from a Naval port) and she suggested Pig Latin............anyone know it?
