0 No not like some kind of nut. It looks like a square head screw tip. The kind of screwdriver that has interchangeable tips.
The thin side is the "head" and the fat side slides into the screwdriver handle.

0 Looks like a size adapter of some sorts. Just like the 3/8th to 1/4th socket wrench adapters.

A fitting for a tap and die set? Not the part that cuts the threads, but an adapter like Anthony said of some sort.
