Happened to a personal friend of mine in South Carolina:

Quote:Got woke up by the kids screaming saturday morning. Went down and pulled my dog out of a ditch, this was a trained, AKC Brittany spaniel. It was still alive when I got there, multiple bites, none looked life threatening. Carried him home to clean up the wounds, cleaned and patched one side, flipped him over and Im looking at a kindey and intestines. Figured this was more than I could handle, saw he was going into shock. Took him to the Vet ($70.00 dollar emergency fee for a saturday) vet is concerned with how far in shock he is, says they would need to keep him for over a week just to stabilize him and the survival rate was less than 50%. Got an estimate of at least $800 not including the surgery for the hurneia, the antibiotics, the stiches, or the adrenaline to get his heart rate back up. Told me id have to decide to put him down or get going on stabilizing. Stepped outside to call the wife, by the time I made it back in he was dead. Followed by a half hour of convulsions the vet told me was his brain trying to jump start his body. Bad start to the day. Took him home, made a pyre. He was a good dog, we had just spent the day before hunting dove squirell and rabbit. Drove down to the "neighbor" that one of the offending dogs lived at. Knock knock.....knock knock.... Black lady answers the door:

Me: "Is the man of the house at home?"
Lady: "No, who the hell are you"
Me: "A neighbor, Your dog just killed my dog"
Lady: "Thats not my dog its a stray"
Me: "That dog right there? The one sleeping under your car, the one Ive seen in your yard for the past year?"
Lady: "Its a stray"
Me: "So you dont mind if I shoot it dead?"
Lady: Closes door *muffled* "Im going to call the cops"
Me: "I already did"
Lady: Door opens "Thats not my..." POP POP
Me: Drags dog to ditch, gets in car, drives home to burn dog

Never did hear from the cops

I do not advocate the shooting of dogs in most cases but this is not the first trouble these dogs have caused. There were 6 of them. Big german shepard and a mut that constantly breed and fill the roads with their run over offspring. Anyone whos met me will tell you I am typically against killing an animal without using it afterwards but sometimes theres a case for revenge.

The sheriffs department said they would set A trap on the next business day if they got a chance. Fuck government, even small government, some things need to be handled in a different manner.

When asked to clarify on some points, he said this:

Quote:yeah i took both girls out seperatly to identify the offending dogs. I deffinitly did not want to senselessly kill a dog. Both girls saw it happen, both girls identified the big German Shepard and a small Australian Shepard (that a neighbor shot with bird shot and I killed out of mercy). This big German Shepard roughed up my dog once before but that was when the wife was walking him by its "Not its Home" so I forgave it there.

Shitty situation but at least the neighborhoods a safer place. Probably didnt go about it in as controlled manner as I should have but Ill sleep alright

I hate trash and their trash dogs, especially ones "they don't own". I wish my friend didn't live in such a mediocre semi ghetto place. Nothing like shitbags letting "not their dogs" run around from "not it's home" to come and rip open your dog in front of your daughters.

I have no problem gunning down people's dogs like that, and have come close to doing so before.

That's why I advocate leash laws. It gives you the one 'edge' toward the right of any situation. I see shit like this all the time too. People have animals they refuse to train, properly care for and allow to roam free and terrorize the neighborhood and when there is a problem out of them, they pull the "it's not mine" or "wasn't my dog he's been here all day" bullshit.

I don't know if I can kill the other dog, but I sure can take it away from them because I've done so in the past with all kinds of animals. I've been pretty lucky no one beat the crap out of me for that! Sadly the most incorrigible ones had to go straight to a shelter.

So far, nothing new in this case. The lady doesn't have shit to go on if she wanted to make an issue of it.

I've pulled my gun out on dogs running around the fields where people walk their dogs before. One time it got to the point where since I couldn't break it up (getting snapped at in the process), I came about a split second away from planting one in the braincase of the offending canine. It would have pained me afterward, surely. My dogs are leashed always, yours aren't, well, tough shit, people.

Sorry, you stupid white people and your stupid dogs in the stupidville of your own mind, this isn't the suburbs, and if your dog comes off and so much as causes a fight that draws blood, it's game over. The idiots usually panic and freak out about the gun, calling the cops, and wailing about shooting their precious dog that was just trying to lay into mine a few moments ago. It happens to me about once every few months, because most of the stupid suburbanites don't understand the concept of using a leash.

"Use a leash next time"

Recently, there was an incident where someone's dog was running around and attacked a pet of someone else. The guy couldn't break it up and it was getting nasty, so he got his gun, and shot the other dog dead. Sheriff told the dead dog's owner that it was tough shit, should have kept it under control.

Can't get away with shooting the neighbor's dog here no matter what. You'll be brought up on cruelty charges and then well, you can't carry the gun anyway so it's all moot. Stupid and moot.

Gunnen, here's a trick for breaking up fighting dogs. My two pits used to fight all the time. Not, silly little play fights, I'm talking $700 in the vet's an hour later to patch someone up fights.

Grab a leash if you can, tie one dog off to something sturdy. Trust me, they won't know you're even there with the least. Don't bother talking, they can't hear you. Hopefully the dog you're tying off has his / her collar on. If not, make one out of the handle like a slip.
Once tied off, go to dog 2 and grab the fucker by the back legs and genlty, pull him / her off the other dog. Non bully breeds this works a treat. Bully breeds it's MUCH harder but it does work. We had to keep sticks around to slip into biting jaws to stop the fight while one of us either held the 'stationary' dog and the other pulled the biter off from behind. Matt was bit only once and that was his own fault for trying to put his hand in Goliath's jaws to stop him from biting. Idiot. The dog was able to pull steel belts out of tires, why did he think he could pry open and pull off an angry pit bull?

Only time I've ever been bit is when I stopped 3 Jack Russel Terriers from fighting. They're so crazy when they fight you just have to be badass fast and grab them by the scruff and hold 'em apart. Unfortunately that particular time I wasn't quite fast enough to dodge the 3rd dog... and the owner of 2 of the dogs (one was my family's dog) didn't grab the 3rd one in time. I've also separated a lot of dogs fighting and the trick Twitch mentions works best with 2 people. Never get "between" the dogs though, it just makes you a target for the jaws as well.

ADMIN EDIT: I put this horrific video in spoiler tags so it does not disturb anyone else and ruin their day.
From now on, any disturbing video that the author knows will upset the more delicate (yeah I beat you to that insult) members sensibilities needs to put a warning on their post and put the content inside spoiler tags.

Jesus Johh. I couldn't watch the whole thing. Fucking asshole cop letting the dog suffer on top of it. I'm fucking crying my eyes out here.

The dog was only protecting his owner. He could have had the decency to put the dog down fully instead of letting him thrash in the street.

Fucking asshole.

Next time put a goddamn warning that this kind of shit is going to show horrific pain and suffering.

And the dog was in the right. EVERYONE in the situation was menacing the dog. They were obviously trying to help the homeless man to see if he was dead or just sleeping, but they should have called animal control and let them handle the situation with the dog.

They should have dispersed the crowd and made the whole area calmer. It can be done and has been done.

Poking, pointing and menacing - because this is what it looks like in the dogs eyes, will make any dog react like that. They shot him solely out of the hysteria that he's a pit bull and the dog was mad.

Fucking assholes, every single person in this situation.
