Well, just wait till all the fucking internet search providers and such jump on the bandwagon "under pressure" from the gov't. Then you'll be fucked no matter what. And mark my words, it'll happen because that is what big names do to stay in business and get approval in the process of making money.

Does Lycos still exist. I liked the black lab they had for a mascot.

It just struck me:

Perhaps all this spying is in an effort to see just WHO has stuff they downloaded and didn't pay for, or was looking through sites to find such things?

They're already doing that. Notice less porn comes up in searches these days?
Also, porn now should be using the new .xxx extension instead of .com or .net.
I'll dig around and see what I can find. There was a big 'toodoo' (how do you spell that?) over the change last year or the year before over it.

That's probably a huge part of it. Because it all started because Metallica claimed to be losing $100,000.00 per MINUTE because of Napster. Blame Lars. He's a douche-bucket.

Matt has a Twitter account - never used it but was going to use it for something eventually. Anyway, he gets a new policy email today, explaining how they're changing things but you can limit how they track you versus how Goggle and Facebook act.

I wonder how true it is?

Here's the letter:
New things are always happening here at Twitter HQ. We're growing at a rapid pace, and our commitment to simplicity, transparency, and reaching every person on the planet continues. We thought you might be interested in knowing about some of our most recent developments:
* A new weekly email that delivers the most interesting news and items you might have missed from the people you're connected to on Twitter.
* Now Twitter is in more languages than ever. Check for your preferred language and change your setting.
* Download the latest Twitter mobile apps at https://twitter.com/download.
* There's more to Discover on Twitter.com - try out the new Discover tab.

In addition, we've made a number of updates to our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Here are some of the main changes to our Privacy Policy, with links for more information:

* We've provided more details about the information we collect and how we use it to deliver our services and to improve Twitter. One example: our new tailored suggestions feature, which is based on your recent visits to websites that integrate Twitter buttons or widgets, is an experiment that we're beginning to roll out to some users in a number of countries. Learn more here.

* We've noted the many ways you can set your preferences to limit, modify or remove the information we collect. For example, we now support the Do Not Track (DNT) browser setting, which stops the collection of information used for tailored suggestions.

* We've clarified the limited circumstances in which your information may be shared with others (for example, when you've given us permission to do so, or when the data itself is not private or personal). Importantly, our privacy policy is not intended to limit your rights to object to a third party's request for your information.

In our Terms of Service, we've clarified how your relationship with Twitter works and made a number of small changes and formatting improvements, such as new headings for easy reference and updated descriptions of our services.

Take a moment to read our new Terms of Service and Privacy Policy:
https://twitter.com/tos
https://twitter.com/privacy

Thanks for using Twitter.

As the saying goes, if we allowed a machine to hand out justice, everybody would be in jail within a month. Same thing here. Am I guilty to have downloaded something less than legal? Yes, I have. I'm sure there are some who haven't, but I'll bet you they are a tiny percentage. My best guess is that the people making all this available for download are the ones who should be concerned most.

And as for Google, they have become so big they are dangerous IMO. Same thing with Facebook, but for perhaps not right now. Google is already well entrenched, and like good Jackasses All, they are into 'DoGooderIsm" Enforcement mode and they are going to keep the world save for (fill in the blank). Facebook is still in the "lets get rich" mode, and once they become well entrenched, they will be following Google. They both deserve each other.

I'm just worried about what sort of hoops and obstacles I am going to have to jump over, when I formally try to close out my small Facebook account.

Isn't it funny, or quaint, how the DoGooder Left is so adamant about greed, and they are the very first ones to take theirs and everyone else's share.

And just when you thought Google Glass was creepy enough, Google goes one step farther than Facebook:

There have been 'social media' type things with this before. I don't participate. I don't hand out info an myself and my actions that easily.
