OK saw news on this all over the place today. I think someone over at NASA has been smoking the wacky weed or had a messed up trip.

Global Warming could trigger an alien attack <-- clicky

Scientists said Thursday that "extraterrestrial environmentalists" could become so angry about what we have done to the planet that they may see us a threat to the intergalactic ecosystem -- and take action by attacking Earth.

The scenario was devised in a joint study by Penn State and the NASA Planetary Science Division. The title? "Would Contact with Extraterrestrials Benefit or Harm Humanity? A Scenario Analysis."

The analysis divided projected close encounters into the categories "neutral," ones that cause mankind "intentional harm," and one in which aliens do us "intentional harm." CLICK ME for full story.

More info on this at

Watt's Up With That

It appears NASA isn't exactly involved in the paper.

Oh I didn't see an update. I nicked MV's link from John's site because that was the most informative one I could find on this when I went looking for 'my own' link.

That's pretty funny - can NASA take some kind of action for this? Or is this guy just some kind of kook everyone should ignore?

He has to be out of his mind. I wonder if he sits around smoking weed with his friends and they all pick on him? I bet they do.

What a choad:

From JohnWho's link:

UPDATE: Former Economist sci/tech reporter Oliver Morton chips in with this in comments, it seems a “horrible mistake” was made by the co-author. Still no word on how this passes peer review.

So here’s the thing. This isn’t a “NASA report.” It’s not work funded by NASA, nor is it work supported by NASA in other ways. It was just a fun paper written by a few friends, one of whom happens to have a NASA affiliation.
…
But I do admit to making a horrible mistake. It was an honest one, and a naive one… but it was a mistake nonetheless. I should not have listed my affiliation as “NASA Headquarters.” I did so because that is my current academic affiliation. But when I did so I did not realize the full implications that has. I’m deeply sorry for that, but it was a mistake born our of carelessness and inexperience and nothing more. I will do what I can to rectify this, including distributing this post to the Guardian, Drudge, and NASA Watch. Please help me spread this post to the other places you may see the article inaccurately attributed to NASA.

But but but but......Algore says that it's REAL. He does he does!

Incredible how shit like this whether just tomfoolery or meant to be serious can actually be taken seriously by anyone who advanced beyond 3rd grade.

(I REALLY need to start that scam where I sell Unicorn and Rainbow futures on the commodities market.)

Well I figure that Gore has the Climate Gloom and Doom market cornered and the Obamas own the Rose Colored Glasses segment so I just thought I could capitalize on a different segment of the weak minded public!
