It's rare that any of my animals get "people" food. Most of the cats won't eat people food if I do give it to them and the dogs are pigs, they'll eat anything I give them but it's ALWAYS in their own dishes after we are through eating.
I also have always fed the animals before we eat. It is an old Jewish custom I got in the habit of when I was a teenager.
