Neil was considered by many to be the greatest drummer we have ever known and although that opinion isn't shared by everyone, most will place him among the top 3 alongside Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa.
Part of what made him unique was his playing style. He never rolled or even did double strikes. All his hits were singles and as a result his overall result had a sound of precision unmatched by anyone else producing original drum lines.
2 excellent examples of his precision sound are on the tracks Overture/Temples of Syrinx from the Rush 2112 album and YYZ from the Moving Pictures album.
