Recently I was wasting some time at the Guitar Center store in Harrisburg and decided to check out a few "inexpensive" (read that as under $800.00) basses.

I have been considering picking up a less expensive bass that I could tune to dropped D and just leave it there if I could find one that has a decent tone.

After messing with a few Ibanez and Yamaha models (even a couple 5 strings) Barb pointed out one that was hanging on the wall that caught her eye.

I had a sales rep pull it down and gave it a test play.

I was floored by the tonal range and feel of it! This was the nicest cheap bass I have ever played. Very comfortable and quick neck, very good quality control knobs, VERY wide tonal range and fullness, excellent balance and weight and a damn attractive paint scheme to boot!

It's an Ibanez SR250 painted in Soda Blue Sunburst.

I have some old gear that I no longer use but is in excellent condition so I'm going to load it up and go see what they will give me for it all. I'm pretty sure I will be able to walk out with this bass, a hard case for it, a new strap and probably strap locks. Hell I may even have the gas money for the ride left over.

I'll probably ride down either Saturday afternoon/evening or Sunday and see what happens.

LOL Matt has the same bass. He traded his Les Paul and Marshall amp for it and the Hartke stack. We got the better deal.

I went down to Guitar Center on Sunday and did the deal with the gear trade.

I walked out with the new bass, a hard case for it, a new strap that matches the paint scheme (black with blue lightning streaks) and a set of straplocks installed for me by their on site luthier (who also set the neck for no charge) PLUS $72.00 in cash!

I took it over to the practice room and plugged in to my amp with my Peavey BW 115 cab. Sounds great! Set it up at full on bass, slightly lowered mid and treble on the boost/cut controls and just a touch more neck than bridge pickup.

Can't wait to give it a go on both the 2 x 15 cab and the 8 x 10 cab.

There's a few tunes we have on the list that will be perfect with that sound. Have one tune that my Epiphone (AccuBass) is just the ticket for and the rest get the Rickenbacker.

Their luthier said he'll go over and estimate the restoration cost for my 1968 model Epiphone. If it's not a horrific estimate I'll get that one gone over and have my choice of 4 distinct sounding basses to play!

The '68 Epi has that classic late 60's early 70's soft deep rich tone that was popular back in the day.

Barb got a pic of me before I went to the practice room with the new one. I'll get it from her and post.

Saw that strap and said "Oh hell yeah! That's a match!!!!!"

I like to try and get matching or complimentary straps for my basses.

The flames compliment the Ric and seeing the Epi on the stand behind me the red strap compliments the black body.
