They would have to prove that the add-on directly affected the failed part. IE: you put a lift kit on your truck and now are wanting warranty work on suspension parts. So a CAI will not void a warranty. Any dealer that claims this is an idiot, ignorant, or just a bully. I'd find a new dealer, one that knows and understands their obligations under the law. Not ignorant twats.

Yeah I kinda figured that too without doing research on laws. It makes no sense that they would sell me an extended warranty for 8 years past the purchase date and anything done to the car would void it. Like I said, the dealer did say they'd still "ignore" after market stuff I add to it and that's what made me think they were throwing me a line of shit to start with.

Now my regular mechanic won't tune the CAI if I do it myself and he won't do any after market shit on the car for fear of repercussions from Ford for me. So if that's the case, I'll have to find someone who will do it. Frankly, I don't see why I can't just put the cone bit on what's there now. Gah there's too much electronics these days in cars!

A CAI you can do yourself, as for tuning buy a H&S tuner or whatever is best on the market for your car and do it yourself you dont need a mechanic for alot of the stuff now because it is all electronically controlled. The Tuners you literally get double sided 3M tape tape the display to your dash and just plug the main cable into the cable port under your dashboard and select the performance presets. Of course you can mount it better but thats how simple it can be. Most modern cars unless it is a physical mechanical issue like a part breaking or not functioning right it is fixed with a computer. Reflashing the software or upgrading the computer software, its really kinda sad.

See though, this is where that part could void the warranty. Since I don't know jack about what the settings should be to start with. Just measure them before and note them then match them on the CAI once installed?

Holy crap they're expensive. Unless you know links to MUCH less expensive ones, I'm not looking for the right thing. A quick look on Amazon got me this:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dautomotive&field-keywords=H%20%26%20S%20tuner

I can't afford those.

This is really all you need http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dautomotive&field-keywords=sct+tuner&rh=n%3A15684181%2Ck%3Asct+tuner There are several places that can write a decent 'canned' tune. If you are interested I will dig up the names.

But if you are doing so much that you think you need a tune, take it to somebody that can do it on a dyno. That is the best way and where you know you will get the best results. If a CAI is all you are doing, just do it and then drive, you don't need to dick around with your computer for something that small.

Yeah, for now all I want is the CAI and sometime next year I'd like to put louder pipes on the thing. Those are still pricey for my needs. I think I can talk Matt's friend into doing it and he's a top notch mechanic that the dealer respects highly. He's very well known around here.

I'm handy with a wrench but I'm far from what you'd call a mechanic! The electronic stuff does my head in. I tinkered around on the older, carburetor engines. I'll stick to brakes and other shit that's a simple take it off and replace where there are no electrical wires to fuck with unless it's a simple snap into a preset harness that's there already.

I'm not so thrilled with the stock radio either and I can't find any aftermarket for the '14's yet. They want like $1200 to add the 'shaker' subwoofer in. Fuck that.

Kicker makes some powered sub enclosures for 200 dollars that can fit under your seats. That will give your car some nice added bass, just need to get someone to install the wiring.

I don't want a rolling ghetto blaster, Anthony. I want an entire head unit. the Shaker stinks IMO and the one I had in the white car doesn't fit in this one's dash set up. The speakers are fine.

This is getting old. Just got a call from Matt saying today's appt at the painter's is moved to Tuesday. Owner will be out on pressing business. Seriously? How much pressing business does someone have outside his own business? This is the third re-schedule.

You said they wanted 1200 for some shaker sub thats why I mentioned the kicker hideaway sub, it is by no means a ghetto blaster its too small, its purpose is to compliment a stock system that lacks lower tones. The ford head units in general are heavily intertwined into the car I could not take mine out even if I wanted or I would lose my heated/cooled seats navigation and other functions. There are head units that will fit your car if its touch screen it will be double din you just need the proper harness, bypass module and dash kit, you may lose some of the cars features though.
