I made my yearly trek to Maple Grove Raceway yesterday and there was some good competition to be seen.

I have to see if someone has an accurate count but I've never seen so many holeshot wins! I went to the NHRA site and counted 10 holeshots across the 4 pro classes. Generally you 1 to 3 wins like this at an event.

I found 1 holeshot in the sportsman classes so the total for the day is 11 as far as I can tell.

(Educational section: A holeshot is when the car records a slower elapsed time but gets to the finish line first for the win. ET is the time the car leaves the starting line until it crosses the finish line. If someone leaves earlier they can reach the finish first but take longer to get there. As long as they don't leave before the start light it's a win!)

I took video of some passes and I loaded them to their own playlist on youtube. Here's 15 vids I took. Most are less than a minute long.

There were a few upsets and these affected the points standings in their respective classes.

The biggest changes were in funnycar and pro stock. Looks like John Force could win a record 16th funnycar title. Matt Hagen came to the race in the lead and Force left with it. John had the car acting more like a bracket car than a nitro funny with times of 4.076 4.061 4.089 and 4.106. That's only a separation of 3/100 second for all 4 rounds. Usually these 10,000 HP cars are not that consistent. Add to that the track conditions changing greatly from round to round and it's that much more incredible.

Round 1 we had overcast sky with a temp of 70 and track temp of about 80 to the final where it was 82 and sunny with the track at nearly 100 degrees.

No record runs but some really close racing.

The closest run had a margin of victory of only 2 inches!
