6 monthes ago I went into a drugstore (CVS) and bought a birthday card. At the candy aisle I spotted a huge payday bar. I was hungry and it was advertised as 1.00$ U.S. I get to the counter too pay and the price was 1.79 I says whoa! its there for a buck! They ask me if I had a card, I said "no" so he says well..........It's a buck .79 without a card. I lost my appetite and said forget it.
I thought about it all weekend and they had another "sale" for an 18 pack of beer for 12.99$ I goes in and grab it and head towards the counter. I start too pay and bam..........they say 17.99. The lady says you have to have a card too get the discount. So I say OK what do I have to do?
She gives me this long application that I can fill out on-line and here's my card.
I never went online, and never filled out anything. They don't know me from a hole in the wall, but they give me the discount just because I said I would apply. I have this plastic scan thing that I stuck in my wallet and get all the discounts they advertise now.

That was 6 months ago and I still go in, pay cash, flash the card, and get 15% off. They all do it (Right-Aid, CVS, Walgreens) and like P.T. Barnum said "There's a sucker born every minute"
Gimme dat filet-0-fish............gimme dat feesh.

It isn't just the drug stores either. Gas stations and grocery stores here do it too. They can all kiss my ass. I shop at the stores that don't do it instead.

Fuck, I shop at all the stores that offer 'cards'. Damn near every major retailer does it and all the drug stores. They don't ask for much, no personal info, but it's like having perks in "Benny Season" when tourists are paying full price and my card gets me the discount.

They do it to collect data to see what is bought most and what is trending and they mix up their sales and even change store layouts based on the results. They dont care about your information they just want to know customer A bought a candy bar because we discounted it and needed 6 rolls of jumbo toilet paper. Then when you come in 4 months later to buy toilet paper again they know customer A needs toilet paper approximately every 4 months. Then they use that data to help their store in ways I mentioned above but then a company like Charmin may want to buy the data from cvs or walgreens that was collected to see how often people use 6 rolls of jumbo toilet paper.

It gets pretty complex and people have no Idea they just care about the good deal, but all these companies make bank on the data collecting and marketing end of these rewards programs.

Most of them have a card at the register they will use to give you the discount, or just ask someone in line.

Do you really think a minimum wage employee gives a shit about the program and it's purpose?
I know I wouldn't and I'd make sure all my friends or old people on limited funds gets a helping hand. Not so much low life welfare whores though.

I agree, and especially agree with welfare abusers. People should get each other discounts whenever possible, its just the purpose behind the discounts yields the company more money then what people save and alot of people dont know that.

The ones you have to sign up for, like Speedy Rewards (Speedway Gas Stations) and such actually sell your data, including your personal information, to "research" companies... and that's where telemarketers get targeted data from. Fuckers. Eat my shit and die.
