Spots on Windshield

OK there's nothing worse than a dirty windshield, especially at night.

Living by the beach seems to do quite a bit of damage to my windshield on the Mustang. There are what look like water spots all over the thing on the outside.

Before I go and ruin it with a scrubby, any of you gear heads know of anything that will fix this problem? Vinegar does not do the trick.

Take it to the glass shop and have them put a new one in.
I dunno about your laws but in NY there is no deductible on glass. And the guy at the shop sure ain't gonna bitch.

If your insurance company wants to see the broken windshield, stab it with a screwdriver and say a stone hit it.

It's not broken.
There is a deductible here in NJ. Not sure what it is, it goes by your plan. I think mine is $250 for windshield and $500 for the other damages.

I can see out the window, but at night you can see spots. It's quite distracting.

NY must have changed that law about deductibles since I moved here. You would see people driving with duct tape across cracks years ago in NY!

I've done it. Just couldn't get some shit off the windshield for like a year. It was a brand new truck.
Fuck it, took it in and told the guy I wanted a new one. Easy peasy.

Might be hard water/ mineral deposits, we get those on the cars here because the sprinklers are using well water. There is a product called invisible glass that worked well for me and another trick is actually using gasoline, just my two cents.

I'll look into that Anthony. They look like hard water spots and then at night the glass actually looks 'glittery' as if it was sandblasted lightly. Been like that since I got the car and it drives me crazy.

You can scratch the spots on the glass and feel it's rough, like something on it rather than 'in' it like a scratch. The glittery though, I dunno. Maybe that can get me a new windshield at minimal cost. I'm going to call the insurance company tomorrow and see what they say about glass coverage.

You could try to polish the glass with toothpaste. It contains a very light abrasive (hence the "whitening" effect).

This works for clouded headlight lenses too. Use a small amount and try it in a corner you don't see well like the bottom or top passenger side. Use a wet piece of cotton material like a piece of an old T-shirt. Use a light touch and polish like you would a chrome piece.

Ultra Brite or Colgate seem to work best.

If it's hard water deposits I'm going to try Lime Away first. No abrasives and it might work. Gonna try it on one of the areas covered in black where nothing is see through.
