Cats are not just "crazy" out of the blue unless you have a case of the worst genetics possible, which I find really hard to believe.
My family have always had a cat lurking somewhere. My mother's cat is slow and elderly, but not senile at 16. It sits grumpily on the garden path letting the neighbouring cats it will not tolerate unwelcome visitors. Coco is only a kitten and stalks Pip and when he gets fed up he boxes her ears and she goes home.
My Aunt in WV is down to 2 cats after having up to 6 at one point. They have all reached their late teens, Claudius made it to 22! He was senile by then, peeing and yowling. He was also deaf and partially sighted and arthritic.
My tom Porgy went senile and lived next door for the last year of his life, because he was sure that was his home- I missed him and very cross the tenants encouraged him and also didn't let me know when he died. His sister Bess stayed with us until she was 18, but slept almost 24/7 at the end either on Christine's bed or on the roof of the car in the carport. We had to put a proper bed up there for her to keep her safe and warm.
