Dog thefts up 32% for 2012

Remember back in the early 80's they were stealing dogs all over the place and selling them to labs and other undesirables? Well, it's starting to happen again.

People were breaking into yards, stealing dogs left on leashes while people shopped etc. You used to be able to go to the deli and leave the dog outside and know it was going to be there. Not anymore. You never see anyone walking the dog and stopping in the store "for a few seconds" for fear Rex would be stolen.

People are such assholes.

Local woman just got lucky and her pup that was stolen on Monday was recovered last night. Matt was listening to his talk radio and they said the AKC reports dog theft is up 32% from last year. That's a lot considering we're only half way through this year. Expect the number to double.

In El Paso, all the Mexicans steal pit bulls for dog fighting and because they just want to have a pit bull for that tough hombre gang look.

My friend's charming dog was stolen three times, and three times, he managed to get that thing back. It would have been useless for their purposes as it was such a friendly dog (and still is), but you know how things are with some demographics I guess. One time, the dog was in the yard and my friend was watching him from inside the house, just to see who would check it out. Well, some Mexicans rolled by real slow, casing the dog and the house. My friend just watched.

You have to realize that in that place, anything not tied down, locked up, or hidden gets stolen. ANYTHING. It's a fucking repugnant theft culture. People drive around looking for shit to steal all the time. Welcome to the third world, coming soon to a neighborhood near you. Anyhow...

Later that night, they were in the backyard looking for the dog (my friend always kept the dog in the house for the night), and were stumbling around. My friend heard their Spanglish and came out with a handgun, scaring the shit out of these guys. They jumped the fence and ran across some fields. Never seen them again as far as I have heard.

My friend has since left El Paso, but he keeps an eye on his dog. It isn't just labs and other terrible fates that cause dog theft for some breeds, but simple evil theft. Dog theft is tantamount to rape in my book. I fucking hate theft. No one steals dogs in my area, but boy, if I ever did catch someone trying to steal them, there would be blood, and certainly not mine.

People are such fucking faggoty pieces of shit anymore. Or well, they always were, but we just notice it more often.

Your friend is lucky they didn't use him / her as a bait dog instead of a fighter because of it's friendliness.

Anyone with a dog should teach it not to take treats from strangers and not to go to call to anyone that is not their family. That's the harder of the two to teach IMO.

People have been stealing dogs for a very long time now and you're right, it's akin to rape and even kidnapping.

By you, you may have a 'certain demographic' casing places for things to steal but that's true for everywhere. We have kids casing neighborhoods all the time here now. This used to be a nice town but not anymore. The story where the little dog was stolen here this week, it was mentioned that when the economy is down, crime goes up. You should have seen the shitheads calling those who believe it's related to the economy racists. Then they went on to say how this town is one of the safest to live in. Idiots, all of them.

I am always concerned about someone opening their car door and inviting Charlie to jump in. I always try to keep him in sight as much as possible, because he is such a 'loverboy'. Being an inside dog helps me anxiety gene.

Usually Shih-tzus are extremely friendly, but Charlie is a lover on steroids. Every time the UPS man drops off a package, he tries to hop up on the stairs and go for a ride with 'The Man in Brown'. I'm afraid one day someone is going to take him up on this.

I would not hesitate to shoot anyone trying to abduct him, and would not suffer the slightest hint of remorse either.

This was El Paso, and I no longer live there. I also don't worry about dog theft up here so much either. Of course, the economy isn't so bad here and we lack a certain...flavor, that other places seem to enjoy in a way. I can imagine the meth heads rolling around in force stealing shit if things finally take a dump here (which, if the outlook is to be believed, and it is, won't happen so much). They are usually a non-issue, but I wonder at when they will be, as they always exist causing petty crime here and there.
