I don't give a shit about any biological mapping, history or what have you. That kid is being singled out for what he is by those in authority, not his peers. If that kid went to school in a kilt they would call it a skirt. If any other kid that was 'straight' wore a kilt they'd call it a kilt.

I actually have a historical/biological right to a kilt because of my lineage. However, where I grew up a man would always be teased for wearing one because every uptight asshole would consider it a skirt no matter what sexual orientation the wearer is. Things are just really messed up in the world. End of story. Period. Fucking. Dot.

Honestly, Even if one thinks that it's "deviant", the guy was not hurting anybody at all and from the looks of him he was most likely transitioning into a woman. It's just clothes, for pete's sake. Clothes don't disturb the natural order of things, etc.. they're just coverings to keep your body protected and that's it.
I could go out into public wearing 18th century male clothing on a regular basis and it would do nothing to disturb anybody at all. Would I get some stares? probably, but it does not disturb the natural order or some bullcrap.

The only time I would ever support the authorities' behavior, when a student comes into school wearing clothes that reflect hate speech and or speaks of intent to harm other students. For instance, a KKK hood and robe. That sort of thing.

Otherwise, I don't give a fuck if all boys suddenly started wearing skirts or kilts.... I would just wonder why they found skirts so appealing because I never liked them much as a girl myself. more of a pants person myself. skirts are just impractical overall in my opinion.

And for the record, I don't get grossed out by seeing two women kiss or do other stuff. I also don't get grossed out watching two Men kiss. and I'm straight. (Although I will confess that sometimes seeing two men kissing intrigues me, espeically if they're both hot).
All I see is two human beings expressing their love for each other... in the same way I would see a woman or man kiss each other.

on a slightly related side note: I find it weird that people would get so easily grossed out at seeing two people HOLD HANDS in public just because of their gender. They then explain it it by saying that they basically picture those people having sex, and it's too much for their vivid imaginations.
To me this means they just admitted to being TOTAL PERVERTS. It's like every time "you" walk by some hetrosexual couple holding hands in a mall "you" instantly picture them having hardcore sex? And "you" do the same for the Homosexual couples too? MY GOD! Talk about being filthy-minded. And they're worried that their children will be equally as filthy-minded as they are, and promptly start asking about what Gay sex is the minute they see two boys holding hands in a mall.
Oh yeah, as if that's likely to happen. most likely they will only see two best buds holding hands, not gay men holding hands, depending on their age. and then they'll be wondering why their parents are reacting so strongly to the men holding hands. so in essence, it will be "YOUR" behavior that brought on the "talk", not the men's so-called "Deviant" behavior.

There was a recent study that proved that people who object the strongest and the loudest to what they consider "deviant behavior" are more likely to be more obsessed with "Deviant behavior" and to engage into it. in other words, people who who are truly homophobic are really self-phobic. Of course there's most likely two groups of "homophobic" people.
The first group, you got men and women going out of their way to prove just how STRAIGHT they truly are. They go overboard with it, to the point that they completely diss anybody who doesn't fit their ideals of what "being straight" means. They're not very comfortable with who they are at all, and it's no big surprise to anybody when it turns out that they're not so straight after all.

The second group is not really "homophobic" at all, But just regular people who don't really fully understand what the other sexual orientations are like. And as an result, they "fear" what they don't understand. Then add on the Follower mentality, where they prefer to have leaders tell them what's "right" and what's "wrong".... instead of having god guide them or their instincts tell them what's moral or what's not. The sad part is that if they truly understood what having a different sexual orientation was like, they wouldn't act "scared" at all. They just wouldn't give a f**K about what others did in the bedroom.

You know something? I bet those school staff are so disturbed by the boy wearing skirts because they find him hot on a subconscious level, and they're not supposed to think that way about a student?

I used to hold hands with my best friend back in 3rd - 4th grade and our obviously fucked up vice principal made a new rule that students couldn't hold hands because it spread disease. We were 9 years old, did he think two little girls were going to engage in 'deviant' behavior?

I can't believe that happened back then. We all held hands like that as kids and no one said a word.

Yeah I held hands with my best buds all the time as a young kid too. Of course there was this one crazy Fundie lady on the street where we used to live, who freaked out and told us that all that hand holding was going to lead to deviant behavior and into Sin. I was also something of a tomboy at that age, so I hated wearing pink and skirts. So of course she was completely convinced that I was doomed to become a butch lesbian because I didn't act like a proper girl. She also didn't want me to spread the gayness around. *rolls eyes* Clearly, some fundies have a weird idea of how homosexuality works. and plus, when I was at the age of a toddler I used to want to wear my dresses all the time... I loved them so much but then I grew out of them. does that mean I'm a lipstick lesbian?? LOL~!

It was thanks to her, that I got the early talk about the existence of Homosexuality and stuff from my mom because I asked her why that lady acted in such a way... and just exactly what a Lesbian was. Needless my mom was pissed off that the fundie introduced such an concept to me because she wanted me to not know about that sort of thing until I was at least a teenager. Because as an teen, I could clearly understand what was going on and accept it. Mom pretty much chewed out the fundie woman for it.

I agree that the kid did NOT violate any dress code. His fellow students were not shocked or distracted by it so there was absolutely no harm done. He has a feminine appearance and this leads me to believe that he will likely seek trans-gender surgery later in life.

Again......no big deal.

Rodman isn't homosexual although he THOUGHT he might be during his teen years. It turned out that he was simply intimidated by women due to being raised in a decidedly female predominant household.

The whole dress thing for him at the time was a giant play for attention on a grand scale. This kid wasn't doing anything in that vein.

These school officials are carrying out a common double standard. Girls can come to school wearing a men's shirt and tie and nothing is said. Hell......some Catholic schools have a dress code for girls that REQUIRE that they wear the familiar pleated skirt, a white shirt and a NECKTIE!!!!! When I was a kid Saint Cyril's (our local parochial school) had that exact dress code for girls.

Those dress codes SPECIFIED what attire boys and girls were to wear. Public school dress codes are rarely that specific as to assign gender appropriateness standards.

Unless a girl came in wearing a Nazi uniform and were sporting a Hitler mustache they likely could wear damn near anything considered to be male attire. ("Oh they're just being girls.") But let a boy wear anything that is even remotely considered female attire and it's a huge issue with homosexual overtones running rampant!

I agree with the other posters that it wasn't a matter of student distraction but rather school officials' prejudicial judgement that was the issue here.

As far as the issue of men holding hands in public? Go to the African nation of Burkina Faso where it is the norm for men to hold hands in public. There it is considered as a show of friendship and solidarity amongst men and entire groups of men will walk around on the streets doing so.

"Normalcy" in behavior is specific to given segments of the world population and as such are not universal. Those who do not recognize this are closed minded at the very least.

Being conservative I personally wouldn't be caught dead wearing women's clothing in public unless it was for a play or other such temporary activity. However, if the practice is doing no harm to anyone then why make a big deal out of it? I might not do it myself but I will firmly defend someone else's right to express themselves. (Provided of course that their expression isn't with malice or harmful to others.)

If others wish to ridicule that behavior then the person exhibiting should be prepared to face that in knowing that what they are doing stands out amongst the crowd. BUT...... facing punishment in an official capacity for doing something that deviates from the accepted norm without harm to others for any given segment of society is just plain wrong!

I really don't give a flying fuck with a rolling doughnut if a big hairy biker dude rides in on a pink Harley wearing a fucking tutu. His choice. If I wanna laugh at that image then he shouldn't be surprised or offended.
