Frankly I don't know where to put this, since Joan does not have a Computer section, and an almost totally unorthodox title setup. But lately I have been watching the fellows at Google. So I posted this on my ai-jane, and thought I would also bring it here.

I have used Chrome, when it was quite young. And even thought it was lacking in areas, it was constantly improving and adding to the program. And certainly it was better than Internet Explorer.

But Google is troubling, if you look at it holistically. First of all, Google is getting to be too big for its britches. And if you add in the fact that the entire original crew are dedicated Jackasses, and Big Government geeks, this means they are also positive toward Big Brother. I don't trust them, and neither should you IMO.

And lately there are certain Google proclivities, reaching the news, that back up my worry. As an earlier thread pointed out, if you value your privacy, and don't wish to become part of the Big Brother Collective, perhaps you may want to ditch practically all of the benefits Google has to offer. Because those benefits may well have a hidden cost you are not even aware of.

Just read this critique of Chrome Google, and see if you don't see a lot of caution flowing under the immediate surface. And note the concern of the Opera executive about how Google has changed into something else. As for me, I intend to divorce myself from as much Google as I can.

Remember anyone who can offer you everything can also take it from you. These people at Google are beginning to frighten me.

That's because it's a news story and not a computer story all in all.

I do have two articles with similar content if you're interested.

This first one is in regard to how your privacy is oh-so-not-private on the internet and especially Facebook.

http://twitchinkitten.com/thread-1837.html

this one is in regard to Google's new privacy policy recently enacted to make browsing easier. Yeah, easier to spam you and invade you.

http://twitchinkitten.com/thread-2829.html

The first one is a sticky in the News forum and the other link is in the same forum farther down.

I went back to using Yahoo for my searches. Tried Bing a couple times but not too satisfied with it.

I've been bitching for years that there should be some kind of standard for web browsers to recognize code. It's really hard to make a theme or other html when you don't know if it's going to work across all platforms. I never liked Google and never will. Pissed me off to no end when they took over YouTube.
