Our prices are riddled with taxes too. Diesel used to cost much less here but it's now more than regular because they've taxed it to hell as 'dirty' fuel. They forget they've come up with clean diesel quite some time ago. Thank you Jon Corzine.

They used to break down where the money for gasoline went. Taxes, businesses, etc. It'd be posted at service stations here and there (they still do in MT), but most of them were taken down once it became obvious the gov't was making bank on taxes, and I mean BANK, especially when most of the gas price was taxes.

It's pretty sad. And the roads don't get fixed all the time like they claim, and we're somehow in trillions of dollars of debt.

Gunnen, I remember when the breakdown was next to each price tag on top of the pumps. It was always more for tax than the cost of gas. I remember having friends who owned stations years ago and they said they regretted getting into it because there was no profit in gasoline. They made money on the mechanic shop. Now its hard to find a service station with a mechanic. It's either a gas stop with "convenience" store or a stand alone mechanic.

Rhubarb,
The cost of it in the UK is riddled with taxes. If you deduct them the relative cost is on a par with US pricing.

universal healthcare is the biggest hit in the UK for the price of petrol.

What? Fool

Hey Punish even though our petrol is hijacked with tax, at least we can still fill up and then still be trusted pay at the kiosk.

Yea, and as a result of that information, most of those little break-downs were taken away.

Rhubarb, that is some small consolation for taxes.

That and they have cameras EVERYWHERE. They have no choice but to pay or there'll be a knock on the door later for it.

We're trusted to pay here Trudi. NJ has no self service because technically, its' assumed that the station attendant will check your fluids (coolant and wipers and oil) as well as fill up the tank. They don't do that here but I should feel antagonistic one of these days and make one of those guys do it just to see how pissy they get. Giggle

The rest of the country offers self serve and you pay up front at the kiosk or via credit card at the pump and that's purely for safety of attendants only. Lots of idiots like to rob gas stations, at least around here and in more congested areas.

I forgot about Britain's CCTV program.

Usually, theft is never a problem if you have humans living in the area...

I make the differentiation between humans who have more advanced thought processes and concepts, and those who have more animal-like behaviors, like stealing things, murder, etc. We might call them trash.
