Photo's to upload when time allows.
My part in helping at the rescue is taking in troublesome boars- if they find a friend they become settled and everyone is happy.
It is very hard to re-home boars.

Bertie I've had for 4 years or there abouts is struggling with his weight having dropped half his weight since September 2013. He weighed 550gram on Tuesday at the vets.
Although he is an Alpha male (a lone pig) Liz the vet felt he needed guinea pig company more and less human since we couldn't give him 24/7. There is also clearly a medical issue still yet to be resolved if ever

So-
He can't go back to the shed, it's still too cold and he cannot keep warm.
He will not share a pen with another adult male.
He cannot share (will not) share with a baby male, too ill to have an ADHD piglet and doesn't like babies.

Go to Sarah with him for an idea what to do-
I come home with Iris.

She's a timid 3 year old and as it appears (at the moment) Bertie is aware she is a sow, but, he either doesn't care and he isn't interested.
Iris came straight in and looked round and made a nest of hay for them both to sleep in, washes his face (he wishes she wouldn't).

The down side is Bertie is a little nervous around her since she is bigger (not by much) and she doesn't appear to let him into the nest straight after she gets in there, he has to make a couple of attempts before she chirps and he wriggles in. At least she does cuddle up to him to help keep him warm!

Oh! She can fight her way out of a paper bag too, which is more than can be said for Bertie.

I'm down to a sensible 8 piggies- they don't bond too well but they have space to hate each other.

Sarah hasn't need my help much this summer she has been managing to keep on top of the holiday boarders and fend off too many rescue cases. Until now. I went over tuesday with a supply of paper, towels and stuff all donated from people I know and she tells me a call had come in from Somerset (next county over) some poor farmer found a breeder had dumped guinea pig and rabbits in a container on his land. she was collecting them from him the next day.

Not knowing how many were there she asked me to take one lone piggie home to make an extra hutch free. Just as well
19 rabbits
15 guinea pigs

All the rabbits have been moved onto Willow Tree Rescue in the next town of Christchurch. The girls there specialize in rabbits and have loads of room for them to run around together (boys in one pen and girls in another).

So this little piggy may not be going back to the ranch for a little while since every piggy brought in has lice and /or chest infections.

Philip has named him Morgan (which means I'm going have a real problem taking him home----never name a foster!)

Last month I went to check out a house where the family had set up a rescue centre for piggies and rabbits. I wasn't too impressed.

I decided rather than going to the RSPCA- which really would not help the problem I offered my services of labour and sourcing materials. It was 'sort of' accepted and although Sarah agreed help with cleaning would be useful she wouldn't not come out with what she was short of.

Then last week she agreed I could go over and help with her pregnant intake. I decided to text her before I went over to check it was still ok and what to take. She phoned me straight back and said she didn't want me to go over.

It turned out she suspected I was working for another rescue centre who she doesn't get on with. I was totally honest and told her about my friends in Crawley who in turn did know the centre Sarah had fallen out with. I don't know any of these people (only Liz).

So all ends well. I got lots of cuddles on lots of piggies (about 30!) and I cleared out the girlies for Sarah while she got her son from playgroup. We agreed 5 were pregnant (one very soon because she was so grumpy and at best a sack of potatoes about to pop).

She finally came up with requests and called me today to thank me for the things I left I thought she could make use of and asked if I'd be there next week? Cuddle those babies- wouldn't miss it!

I found a newsagent willing to give us left over newspapers and my mum's church is going to put out an appeal for bedding. Now I need to find some wire and lino, wood and tarpauling.
They were not sick at all, no runny noses, no diarrhea, no teeth issues... They were fine in the morning when I had to go to work... Maybe it was just too much to Mirelle to cope with...
They always lived together and everything was OK, they were best friends! So I think they decided to cross the bridge together...

Angela told me to save money and buy bales of hay from the feed merchants out at Holt. In theory it sounded a good idea so long as the tripout there made it worthwhile. Did it really save to drive out there and back with the cost of fuel?

Mark decided to come with me because he wanted to go that way too and show me something in a shop *Thinks West Moors isn't actually on the way, but hey-ho, its just a differant route to the one I planned.

We took the Renault, afterall it needed a long run and it is a French farmers run-around. I've seen all sorts carried in them, including goats!
Mark drove, after the shop we set off again into the lanes of Dorset, which resort to getting twisty and more disoriantaing than you could ever think possible. The signposts are mostly historic, nothing changes to upgrade them. After several junctions I begin to wonder which way Mark is going to get to Wimborne, the main town to where we needed to go. Finally we get to a junction, the sign says Wimborne St Giles to the left (a hamlet north of Wimborne) and Fordingbridge to the right. He begins to turn right,
'Urm, where are you going? This doesn't appear to be the quickest way to Holt.'
'Holt? I'm going to Alderholt, you said Alderholt,'
'If I said Alderholt why would I suggest we also went to Wimborne Market afterwards, when it would be an hour out of our way?'
'I dunno'

The problem is, we are now heading for the feed merchants from the wrong direction so the information on how to get there (from Wimborne) is pretty useless. There is no phone signal, we are lost.
We ask an old lady (she turns out not to be local) we ask a man feeding his sheep, who knew straight away and gives us a short cut, which Mark has reservations about using. We get there, and I now know where we are, after passing a couple of pubs.

So, we park the car next to a tractor and trailer (someone loading large bags) and a lady with a Range Rover and trailer.
'Urm' *Is the Renault going to be the right vehicle for this job, maybe we should have brought the trailer too.
There is the owner, honest to God, sterio-typical, flat cap tweed jacket and trousers held up with string
I ask him about the hay and he starts how he is in short supply because of the poor season and how much did I need.
I asked how he sold it
'£30.00 a quarter ton, is it a horse you have?'
'No, pigs'
'Na- you need straw then'
'No. guinea pigs'

There's this embarrassing silence while he looks at me.
''What did you come here in? I'll get someone to stick a couple of bales in it for you. Do you want some chippings? Keeps the hutches dry. I'll do it for £6.50.'
Meanwhile Mark is watching the lady with the Range Rover have a roll of hay forklifted into the trailer.
Then he sees another roll arrive in the yard.
The lady comes into the shop where I'm paying for my hay.
'Your husband's face is a real picture. He is looking at my hay bale and wondering how he is going to fit one into your car.'

Mark arrives in the shop and I tell him the bales are on their way from the store with a pack of chippings.
'Two bales!'

It all fitted in the car no problem and should last a while.
The storeman then told us if we wanted he could drop any supplies off on a Friday morning free of charge because he came into town with an order and passed our house!

I've seen the Hayters lorry on my day off too!
Really it would have been just have cheap to run up the pet-shop with the time (2 hours) and petrol (No1 son had fueled the car) spent.

On the other hand, it was brilliant whizzing around the country lanes in 'Rene' again and seeing all those broken down Harleys on the H-D Run out of Bournemouth.

Thought you would like to see Stratos (I call him Strat), he's on the right.
No1 son named him.
He is beginning to settle with Cooper quite well but the Berlin Wall will be staying I think, more to do with Cooper's behaviour.

We cleared the empty hutches out of the shed to send to the rescue centre.
Only John hasn't been over to collect them.
Tonight
Liz emailed. 100 piggies are about to need rehoming locally, how did I feel about more adoptions?

What do I do?
