Trouble, you might want to limit how often the cat goes outside now (if that's where he / she goes during the day). Cats like to slink off to secluded and weird places to lie down and die.
I had a cat who kept trying to go into a nook in the driveway and if I wasn't home, he'd have gotten run over while he was dying or already dead.
They find the hardest places to get to as well, like under the porch, in the farthest corner under the house, inside your car's engine block....the areas of horrible places is endless.
