OK here's the juicy details.
On August 23, 2014, Marco Tulio Alvarez Lopez stabbed some poor schmuck, Mario Vasquez on the sneak for refusing to give him $50.
We had one guy who needed to talk this out to death because he had to be sure we were doing the right thing. Well, Tuesday we all were 50/50 on deciding between Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon or Attempted Murder. So being so split, we took the night to think it over and when we convened yesterday morning we only had 2 hold outs. What was the tipping point?
Mario Vasquez isnt' the sharpest knife in the drawer (pun intended!). He is here illegally and lived in a shit neighborhood with shit people in shit conditions. He found day work and was always working. He found Alvarez-Lopez homeless, with no food or money and felt bad for him. So what does he do? He takes him in, feeds him, loans him money, pays his rent etc until he can get on his feet. Well, he was OK for about 3 months and the two of them moved together to a new shitty attic room. This is where Alvarez-lopez decides to resume being a bum and mooching off Mario.
These guys did not socialize with each other.
Mario only knows him as Lucas.
The landlord knew him as Juan.
They did not work with each other.
It turns out that Alvarez-Lopez was not giving his proper name to anyone, even his "own kind". He is one of the "invisible people".
Well, Mario is off at work and Marco is home being a bum. Mario comes home from work around 7 or so and sees Marco outside with some friends (he doesnt' know them) having a little BBQ and beer. Innocent enough right? They offer Mario some chicken and beer. Mario was too tired to eat so he goes up to his room to have a shower and change. Marco and a "friend" (we never got more out of that other than it was "someone") went upstairs as well. They carried on drinking while Mario was grabbing some clothes to go change.
Marco asks for $50 and Mario refuses. Marco still owes him money from earlier that month. So Mario claims Marco's friend went to the bathroom while this was all going on and Marco goes into the "kitchen" and returns. Mario is still grabbing clothes and Marco plunges a 12" kitchen knife into his ribs. When he does this he says, "Is this how you want it?" and he drops the knife and runs.
Mario makes it downstairs and the "landlord" meets him on the stairs and sees and hears people running out the back.
They call 911 and get Mario to the hospital.
Sloppy, and I mean SLOPPY police work almost let this guy walk.
Two hours after Mario was taken to the hospital, the police notice someone sitting on the steps of the house with no shirt on, all scratched up from the woods (that are behind the house). Keep in mind Mario told the landlord that his roommate stabbed him. He told the attending officer his roommate stabbed him.
Marco is pretending he had no clue what was going on as he was upstairs sleeping. Idiot.
The cops already searched the room where they slept together. Don't you think they would have noticed someone on the cot up there? They had a bloodhound out sniffing, dont' you think the dog would have noticed him there?
The cops never taped off the back of the house nor did they have anyone watching the back door. Dumbass could easily have gone in, taken his meager belongings and got back out unnoticed.
We got to see his interrogation. Talk about stupid criminals! He pretty much told on himself 5 times in 5 different ways, but the biggest tell was that while pretending not to know what was going on, when the cop told him his friend was stabbed, his reaction was, "He's Alive?!" BOOM! You just wrote your death sentence dumbass.
Until that video we all were going to let him go due to very sloppy police work, poor presentation of proof by the prosecution and other factors. But the fact he walked off, got a knife, broke off the handle, stabbed his "friend" and ran leaving him to die was enough to believe he tried to kill him.
If Mario didn't go downstairs and have 911 called for him, he would have died. The knife went down instead of up and my personal opinion is that it hit a rib and redirected or his heart would have been punctured. Most likely sliced in half. We got to see the knife up close in person too. It was gross. Blood all the way to the hilt, thick and bits of guts still on it.
The fiend had NO emotion the entire 2 weeks of trial. NONE. And he had NONE when we said guilty to attempted murder. So yesterday I tried finding more stuff about the area. I didn't cheat as instructed. Two weeks later someone else on that block was stabbed multiple times. Jesus.
So anyway, here are some "breaking news" links. The press worked fast, lol. Such in-depth reporting (say that dripping with sarcasm).
This is the original arrest report. Notice he was booked on Aggravated Assault? This went to a grand jury and they upped the charges to Attempted Murder.

He will do whatever time the judge gives him and then get sent to Newark to be tried in federal court for deportation back to Guatemala.
This guy, in my OWN personal opinion was / is wanted in South America. He was no stranger to being in a police interrogation room, was not nervous in the least and was a wise-ass and arrogant to the cop. AND this is why I think he didn't run. All the aliases he gave as to who he is was odd. If I were up on charges and illegally here, I'd be running for the border. Disappear. But no, this dope comes back to the crime scene and tries to bullshit his way out of it.
