Purists will argue that charcoal is the only real grilling.
I figure that as long as those partaking of the finished food are happy with the flavor then who's to argue?
I can get great grilled flavor from a gas grill. If you can get the flavor you want from an electric then go for it!
Smoked flavor? Hell......just put some wood chips in a piece of foil and make a pouch, perforate the top, then place it on the grill before the food. When it starts to smoke, cook away. Works for any grill including charcoal. No need to go buy a particular type of charcoal then for whatever smoke flavor you want.
