As far as legality goes, no the guy did nothing wrong. It's just a bit creepy, that's all. Maybe it wouldn't be so creepy if the expression on the stuffed kitty's face wasn't one of surprise.
I simply wouldn't take my beloved pet to a taxidermist. I have pictures to remember them by. To me, having the pet stuffed is just not letting go of them even after they pass on.
As far as taxidermy with game animals from hunting goes, it's a different category. That falls under the classification of trophy. In that case the intent is to preserve the essence of a magnificent animal that came out on the losing end of the hunt that particular day.
I DO NOT agree with those who hunt simply for the trophy. If you are going to go hunting then eat the game you take.
