Joes Crab Shack = major rip off!
So last week while on the job interview with Matt, we were near the Monmouth Mall and saw they had a Joe's Crab Shack there. Of course we took the opportunity for crabs and a mini celebration because he had a good feeling about the job.
Anyway, don't waste your money for two reasons:
There is NOTHING on the menu under $25.
They pad the bill by adding more tip.
We order what looks like huge buckets of crab each. We expect the seafood to be expensive, but we figured the bucket would fill you up. NOT. Top it off they forget the butter. How can you forget the butter! The food wasn't very flavorful either. We ordered our crabs with garlic flavor. Hardly any garlic nor spices. Very bland and it was cold as if it were in the 'fridge within 5 minutes of sitting on the table. No exaggeration on the 5 minutes.
They put bibs on you. OK fine, but do they have to be hokey with King and Queen Crab written on them with magic markers along with the painted crap that advertises the chain? Oh and the stink of paint from the bibs was overpowering. I hate that. Probably full of lead made in China too.
PS - they try to sit us at friggin' picnic tables to boot. I complain and they give us a regular booth. I complain again because before I sit I notice the damn seat is FULL, and I mean FULL of grease and food bits. Table left something to be desired as well. It took six tries before I picked out my own table and asked if it is OK to sit there. eesh
Anyway, after getting a bill of $60.52 and leaving a (not that it was deserved) $10 tip, we leave hungry with the happiness of knowing we have some pie at home to fill the void.
Next time we go out for crabs it'll be at Bum Roger's again. More crab, better flavor and better price overall. There are about 20+ crabs in that plate.
